If you have read my previous long winded (DD nearly 2, Dairy and egg free siet but no better please help), stressed post you will understand why i am looking for a good private allergy clinic if i get no joy from the GP.

Does anyone know if there is any clinic in Essex???

How good they are???

How much it may cost????

and what to expect???

Thanks Kerrie

They have an allergy clinic at colchester general hospital - you can get a referral from your GP. The other place in East Anglia is Addenbrooks - I think they have less of a waiting list.

Hope that helps?

I am sorry I don't know of any but will lurk to see if anyone else does as my DD2 has allergies to dairy and gluten.

Originally Dr told me she was coeliac however her blood levels were not consistent with this. She can now eat freely but is not putting on any weight, moving from 95th percentile when born to the 9th percentile now....Also very skinny arms and legs and doesn't sleep well.

Her nappies are awful, loose stools 3-4 times a day. They have been particularly bad today after eating chocolate.

What are your daughter's symptoms Kerrie?

kmcomie · 24/03/2008 11:01

She has the symptoms you explain but also even after eating a small pot of fromage frais or something we are immediatly violently sick and then the rash and swollen lips start.

If she eats soemthing with a very small amount of dairy in then we get runny eyes and bad chest, so it is fairly severe.

Thanks for looking

God poor you...what help have you had so far? This sounds completely intolerable for you and your daughter...I hope you get help soon. Can you let me know if you find a clinic as I'm in Essex too and would consider a more thourough investigation too. Have not had too much joy through my GP and Paediatrician....

kmcomie · 24/03/2008 21:07

yeah like you i have had little help from the GP who referred my to paeds and dietcian. However they have been no use and only added to my stress. I am making an appointment tomorrow but will probably have to wait at least a week for it and then i am going to push for a referral to a specialist clinic. Will keep you updated
take care

We went to Addenbrookes and saw a Dr A Clark privately (and within a week or so). He is one of the few specialist paediatric allergists in the country.

ps sorry meant to say cant remember exact cost - think it was somewhere around £150 but not sure. He did skin prick tests on key allergens and anything we wanted to take in with us. Nice helpful guy.

Appt was in evening when he wasnt doing his NHS stuff.

Meant to add that if you take your child to A&E when she has a reaction they'll probably give you a bump up the list as you will have already presented so it will be on the hospital notes and a copy will go to your HV so you'll be able to have it noted everywhere on the system and they won't have any excuse for not giving you the appt.

Do you have an epi-pen? It sounds as if your dd's symptoms are severe enough to need them.

Pimmpom · 29/03/2008 16:22

There is an allergy clinic at Princess Alexandra hosp, Harlow

Hi there, New to mumsnet. Just wanted to say that we also saw Dr. Andrew Clarke in Addenbrookes but didn't have to go privately. DS is 4 and I pushed to have him retested for his peanut and tree nut allergy. I was given a choice of Cambridge or Chelmsford so there must be one in chelmsford too. It took about six weeks to get appt. Alas they confirmed he was still allergic.
