Really need advice on DD who has big red raised itchy spots.....................

Hi. This is about the third time DD (5) has had this. Big red raised spots on her body. (not chicken pox!) She gets really hot and itchy then the spots come out and are sore and itchy.

This time last year we saw the doctor as the rash was so bad she could hardly move. One doc said it was an infection and 2 other docs said it was an allergy. But to what? The days she had this she hadn't really eaten anything different.

Today the same thing has happened. Been to a friends for tea. Nothing different to what we normally eat. She said she had a few spots at school and last night and then kept scratching and more came up. She went to a party at the weekend (I think she went to a party last year when this all happened before) and had a ham sandwich, carrot sticks and crisps but the birthday cake was homemade by my friend but probably one of those packets you just add eggs etc. Im wondering if it could be this.

To people with children who have allergic reactions does this sound like one? Should I keep her off school tomorrow and take her to doc?

You say she had it "this time last year" which makes me think it's an allergy to a pollen.

You can try to find out what pollen it is, but it won't change much, I'm afraid. (Desensitization etc takes years and is not terribly effective)

Why don't you get an anti-allergy cream from the pharmacy, apply it on her spots and see if that helps.

I don't know if she can take anti-histamines at her age. Best to ask a doctor.

Hi. Well the first time it happened was about this time last year and then it has happened a couple more times throughout last year again and now flared up again.

If this happens I give her Piriton.

Itchy sounds like allergic reaction to me. You may never discover what she is allergic to.

I had them all the time at that age, but grew out of them eventually. It could be eggs, this happens to a friend of mine. If it keeps happening you need to see a specalsit I would think. I'm sure they can take piriton at her age (anti-histamine)

I took DD (2.6) to her paediatrician this morning because she has had raised red spots (apparently not itchy for her) for a couple of days now.

Paed said the following which I thought would be interesting to those who follow this thread:

(1) Raised red spots with slightly white middle (but not filled like a pimple) >> allergies.

(2) Food allergy flares up when eating or immediately after, and subsides about two hours later. (DD's allergy has been going on for several days, so not food allergy)

(3) Pollen allergies rarely cause skin manifestations but it's possible

And she prescribed anti-histamine Aerius (desloratadine) syrup for DD. Not to be used now but if it gets worse or if it bothers her.

Are there any animals nearby, they can cause flair ups like this. Also I don't suffer from any pollen allergis, but I am allergic to grass which brings me up in big red spots, so could it be that?

Dd2 has suddenly developed an allergy to oranges or anything with citrus in - came completely out of the blue a couple of weeks ago and she keeps getting a raised red itchy rash of swellings, mostly on her face, but also bottom and legs and hands and feet. Does sound like a food allergy.
