ds has dustmite allergy and want to know how best to prevent symptoms. ANyone know about best vacuum cleaners? Been looking at the Miele S5280.

Can't recommend a vacumn cleaner, so good luck there. My tips are as follows. When ds has got up, pull the duvet right off the bed onto a near by chair. Blinds are better than curtains and carpets are not good.

Turn his mattress every week and hoover it.

Wet wipe every where rather than dust.

Limit cuddly toys to one or two favourite ones and cylically put them in the freezer for a few days to kill the mites

I know all of this, but rarely manage to do all of this for my three

get rid of your carpets (his room at least), buy anti allergy mattress, duvet & pillow protector, buy the miele

Anti allergy covers, oh yeah I forgot about them

Depending on the severity of the allergy, you can also replace carpets in the bedroom/throughout the house with a sealed hard surfacing (laminate, tiles, lino etc), softened by washable rugs (but make sure you do then wash them- the bit I alwys forget .

we use anti allergy covers, but also happen to have anti allergy duvets and pillows - bought by chance before allergies were known. we have a vax allergy vaccuum which is really great and didn't cost a bomb.

wash all bedding at 60%. minumum of toys in the bed and wash them at 60% or pop in the freezer once a week for a few hours.

most toys away in boxes with lids and damp dust regularly. open windows as often as possible, closing around 3pm as this is when pollens etc settle which could also be a problem for some.

hoover regularly and under beds.

wood flooring rather than carpet is meant to be a good idea too

I have a leather sofa and virtually no soft furnishings/carpets in the house and my allergy is much better under control despite the fact we now own a cat (and I'm allergic to them)

All the stuff already said and air his room at least, pref all the family rooms too for a little while every day no matter what the weather, just a few mins of having the window open helps loads, especially when you've had the heating on.

also have your central heating on as little as possible (invest in jumpers!)
