Washing Powder and Eczema

Hi

I am in the process of trying to figure out what, if anything in particular, triggers dd's eczema. I have stopped using any fabric conditioner, and have been using Persil Non-Bio, but someone told me the other day that their child's eczema flared up when she used anything by Persil, and that when she switched to Fairy washing powder, it settled down. Can anyone tell me if they've tried this, and what success they've had?

Freddiecat, Dreft is no longer available? In your local store or everywhere? Used to love it.

I have suffered from Eczma all my life and have spent 20 yrs using creams drs recommend that do nothing or just make it worse. However i recently found a website called chemistdirect.co.uk that has a whole section for Eczma. I use the oiltum bath oil the soap and eumocream all of which really helps.
Hope this helps people xx

The only washing powder I can use is Surcare. Fairy non bio if I am absolutely desperate but I have to rinse everything at least twice otherwise his eczema flares up!!

Another vote for Surcare here. I have eczema from a fragrance allergy, shampoos and conditioners are the products I have to be especially careful with.

My DD got eczema with Surcare, but was a lot better when I switched to Fairy Non Bio. Haven't used anything else ever since. I think it really depends per person what works and what doesn't, just like some emollients are great for some and make things worse for others.

Were using dairy at the moment but I'm wondering if it's worth trying Persil non bio, what's best powder or liquid?

I do no all the powders brought out my babies eczema and now I use the soap nuts but they don't clean at alL, . I figured her skin is more important than some stains but would love if something worked!

I'm a life long eczema sufferer and my DP also has had allergies to washing powder in the past. The best I've found and have stuck to ever since is Aldi's Almat powder with lenor softener.

Hope you manage to find a combo that suits you! I know the struggle!

There's a very good explanation of what effect various laundry products on irritable skin at skinsalve.co.uk/pages/laundry-powder
I've been using this as our family laundry product for years now as all of our family have sensitive skin including our grandchildren and certainly works for us.

Thanks to the post just above. I'm going to try Skin Salve!

Just to give the opposite side, I’ve tried Persil Bio, Non-bio, Fairy and Ecover, all with and without fabric softener and extra rinses, and it’s never made a blind bit of difference to DS’s skin (or mine, but mine is on my hands so I know mine is all due to washing and exposure to the wind).

Being over-bundled up makes DS worse, and so does dry central heating in general. I’m looking forward to spring.

For some reason I've picked up this thread from Mumsnet in my spam file so I thought I'd add my opinion on great washing powders for sensitive skin, for all the family.
We use a great product from //www.skinsalve.co.uk and it cleans effectively leaving clothes very soft and itch free.
