Is it possible to be allergic to Quinoa?

I have had some weird pains in the past. I get a stomach ache and kidney ache for no apparent reason.

I wondered whether it was linked to what I ate. Both times I had eaten Quinoa.

Tonight I had quinoa for tea, and I don't know if it psychosymatic, or something else, but my throat felt funny and I couldn't face eating anymore.

Hi had quinoa twice for breakfast. Last week and yesterday. Both occasions had yoghurt and LSA and sugar with it. No reaction very enjoyable.
This morning just had it with sugar and have been bloated and sore since then about 12 hours. Tallee

My daughter had the same symptoms as LittleCheesy when she had it as a toddler, and also with lentils. Haven't tried her on it again.

I have discovered that I am allergic to wheat. As an alternative I purchased gluten-free pasta, and ended up with digestive issues with it as well. (I have determined the sauce is not the issue.) The only ingredients that I think I could possibly have problems with are quinoa flour or amaranth flour. (They were the fourth and fifth ingredients in the pasta.) I'm tired of buying wheat-free items and discovering there may be other things I'm having issues with. Do you know of any pastas that are wheat and quinoa free?

I am starting to think that I also have an allergy to quinoa. The first time I ate it, I had mild diarrhea and didn't know what caused it because I had eaten a lot of different things at a potluck of sorts. The second time, I had moderate diarrhea and once again didn't really attribute it to the quinoa. However, we made a quinoa dish 2 nights ago and I had some pretty bad diarrhea and this time it was the primary thing I ate. Still, I love quinoa so much, I decided to eat the leftovers for lunch today and wouldn't you know it, I had terrible upset stomach until my stomach was empty of all its contents. I am pretty sure I must give up quinoa even though I love it so much. BTW, we always wash our quinoa thoroughly. I think there is something to this.

Quinoa contains a soapy substance called Saponins which might cause some people to get sore throats or stomach ache, though this article suggests that Saponins are quite good for you.

You can always buy rice flour products, as long as you aren't allergic to corn, since it's also used

I ate quinoa on Monday night and last night and both times I broke out in a rash (similar to hives) all over my face and neck. Is this a possibility?

You can be allergic to anything. My son got hives when he ate quinoa, and reacts to it on a skin price test.

Today is the first time I ate quinoa with a recipe from green monster. Whilst eating both my feet got an itching sensation.Don't know if it was quinoa or mosquitoes! Finished my meal and did nothing. The redness is diminishing but it has given me a fright.
