GP won't do allergy test after nasty reaction - where else can I get it? Private?

That's ridiculous i'd demand your gp refers her for testing otherwise the next time she is exposed it may be more serious. Whatever happened to prevention is better than cure!

Crikey - how serious does your gp want the reaction to be. (Sounds like our local council - no we won't put a pedestrian crossing on your road until someone gets killed on it.)

Can you see another gp? You can get it done privately - no idea how much it costs.

is there another doctor at your practise that you could go to??

I had this, only with me rather than any of my kiddies, and altho my doctor agreed to test me (and confirmed), he then wouldn;t refer me to an immunoligist, which is the next person along as a reaction like this involves the immune system.

it took another very bad reaction from me, and another docotr at the practise, to get the referral that I need! (and I am now heading towards an epipen!!!!!).

if all else fails, yes you can go privately altho I am not sure how, or how it works. there will most likely be someone about here who knows that side of things.

hiya my dgs had reaction to penicillin still no allergy tests!! just avoid in future. How mad is that !!

tatt · 03/03/2008 16:09

wouldn't be too bothered about penicillin, tbh, because it's pretty easy to avoid and I know people with it who haven't go on to develop other allergies.

orinoco commented on another thread and I believe you're right to push this. For now I would send a bottle of piriton everywhere with your child.

Once they have a reaction where they actually stop breathing it may be too late to test them because you have (I believe) 4 minutes then. If their throat starts swelling you may have 30 minutes. Swollen throat = time for a test. Private tests are almost as hard to arrange as NHS tests as few allergists see private patients. If you have to go down that route post again with the nearest large city and maybe someone can help you find a decent doctor.
