Are there any food allergy tests accepted by the NHS?

I'm convinced my 3 year old daughter is allergic to tomatoes. She has really bad eczema which flares up and looks very angry and red and eventually settles.

She has additional needs and has limited vocabulary, but frequently says "tongue" either immediately or just after consuming a meal which involves tomatoes, whilst sticking her tongue out and scratching it. We eat a lot of Italian foods, so pastas and pizzas but lots of salad with always involves fresh tomatoes.

I've started a food diary today. She's recently been referred to a dermatologist due to her ongoing eczema and I wanted to be one step ahead because I know they may ask for this when she's eventually seen.

I do wonder if there's an allergy testing kit we can pay for which will be accepted by an NHS consultant. I don't want to pay only to have a consultant say "the results are worthless, we need to do our own tests".

Any advice appreciated!

Not really. Proper IgE blood tests are not diagnostic and throw up a lot of false positives, and need to be targeted and interpreted based on reaction history, and skin prick or patch tests are tricky for anyone with eczema.

If you suspect she's allergic to tomatoes you really should stop giving them until she's been seen by an allergy specialist.

Get an nhs referral and get tested privately by a specialist while you wait.
Go see an allegy specialist, ideally one with paed experience.

If you are anywhere near either central london or herts go see Dr adam fox and team.
Dr. David mass (who does the allergy testing) and Adam are total pros and just wonderful.

Its was about £200-£300 for a full panel diagnosis and was worth every penny.

Tomatoes is very common in young kids but they often grow out of it. Both my kids would get rashes around their mouths, even after eating tomato sauces like spaghetti bolognaise. They're 4 and 5 now and it's calmed right down.
