Suspected CMPA in breastfed baby

My now 10 week old baby has suffered from symptoms from about 2 weeks old.

Constantly spitting up large amounts of milk, projectile vomiting about twice a day, acting as if he is pain - crying in his sleep, arching his back, legs up to his tummy, won't settle if layed down, doesn't like to be on his back even in play but loves tummy time - stringy nappies, constant spots on face and tummy, looks like he ate something sour often throughout the day.

Had latch checked by lactation consultant, all great (he isn't my first breastfed baby, I tandem feed with his older sister) had tongue tie checked for and all fine.

Worse about 6 hours after I have a dairy heavy meal. He is putting on weight so the GP won't do anything about my concerns

All siblings and their children have had CMPA as infants and young children and I know it runs in families.

Would I be right to cut dairy out of my diet for 4 weeks to see if there is an improvement without the input of the GP? Is there anything I need to be aware of before I do this starting tomorrow?

My thinking is if I do this and there is an improvement then I can go back to them and say we have figured it out (I don't want to stop breastfeeding, am happy to live without dairy but I know we might need input when it comes to doing the milk ladder later on) and if it doesn't improve things then atleast I know it's not an issue and can stop worrying quite so much

Hi I wouldn't say there is anything you have to lose by going dairy free, snd you might gain a baby without these symptoms- it took 6 weeks for my CMPA child to lose all allergy symptoms after going totally dairy free, but he never reacted to my breast milk so they are all different. You would have to continue to monitor for additional allergens as well. I'd also book to see GP so you have it on record and they can advise you further and refer if needed.

@10speckledfrogs I think that your approach is very sensible. Don't forget to take a whacking great calcium & Vitamin D supplement. You need 1250 mg a dayy*.
