M&S wording

Does anyone know why M&S say ‘not suitable for nut allergy sufferers’ on pretty much all their baked/snack products? Are they particularly prone to cross-contamination?
I ear ‘May contain’ but the m&s wording really puts me off.

I don't know about nuts but my little boy who has a cow's milk protein allergy had a fairly severe anaphylactic reaction to an M&S "vegan" chocolate product which had a similar warning re: milk. Lots of their milk alternatives e.g flavoured oat milks have the same warning and I also find their cafes have extremely limited/no options for him so tend to avoid M&S altogether now!

I'm the same. Our local M&S has a really lovely cafe but I'm CMPA. There's a huge display of cakes as you go in and there's not one that's suitable for anyone with CMPA.

It is really annoying as they have this on almost everything!

They tend to use not suitable rather than May contain but it seems to be an umbrella term that covers every single possibility, so it may be in the same factory, or on the same production line - we just don’t know.
