CMPA or just Eczema

14 weeks old DS, been formula fed since birth. Around 6 weeks of age, started to develop dry skin on face, belly and arms. It became very red looking and very dry. Started using differnt moisturisers and change up bathing.

Went to the GP again around 10 weeks of age who said its eczema and prescribed differnt creams.

His skin has improved and some days you can't see any redness and very well moisturisered now. However, some days his skin flares up really bad, to the point his face looks sun burn with how red and angry it gets.

GP has now said its a cows milk protein allergy and prescribed Nutramigen LGG 1. Which DS hates, it has to be served and made at room temperature water, DS likes warm bottles so this is a challenge in its self let along the taste difference.

Question is, if he had CMPA, would this not have been present from birth as I formula fed from hours old, instead the skin problem/eczema only developed around week 6/7, it flares up and down some days can't see anything, other days it looks angry and sore. Is this really a CMPA or just eczema as DS hates the hypoallergenic formula and I'm now stressed about weight gain ect...

To also add, DS has no other CMPA symptoms. No reflux, colic, tummy pains, normal poos ect

It's quite common for allergies to kick in after a few weeks. My ds has an egg allergy that causes eczema but no other symptoms so it's perfectly possible it is cmpa. The only way you'll know is to remove dairy and see if symptoms improve and then trial a bit of dairy and see if symptoms come back. My understanding is that nutramagin is not completely dairy free but just hydrolysed so if might be you need to go onto a completely dairy free formula to see real results.

Just to add that with my DS we went through nearly a year of creams and treatments to np avail. I finally removed egg and the eczema disappeared within a few days so it's definitely worth trialling dietary changes.

Hi op. Sorry to hear your baby has eczema too. My dd is now 7 months and from about a week old we noticed how uncomfortable she was everytime we gave her a bottle, she would be farting while drinking it and screaming in pain, she wouldn't be laid down flat, had explosive poos, it was only at about 6-8 weeks I noticed a rash on her chest and lots of mucus in her poos. She is now covered in eczema. She went onto Aptimal pepti 1 at 8 weeks and we thought great all symptoms went away apart from the reflux which she had gaviscon for.

Her eczema got to a point of being everywhere so I called the dietician back who has now prescribed Neocate, and that really is disgusting, we have to put vanilla essence in it.

Sorry to ramble on I just wanted to show yes it can take a while for These things to build up in their little systems, and for us, it was the skin that took longest to appear

Also we have this -

ÜneeQbaby Baby Formula Kettle - Night Light Function with Built in Thermostat, for Bottle Feeding, Totally Silent amzn.eu/d/9Pj6nW4

It's essentially a smart kettle, you set a temp, it boils up to 100degress and then goes down to the set temperate and stays there for 24 hours before it switches itself off. The lowest it sets is 40degrees, my dds dietician said 40 is fine to make the formula with, it won't destroy any nutrients at that temp but it's still warm and ready to drink right away. Might be worth looking into
