Delayed Allergic Reaction

Does anyone know if it is possible for a child to take an allergic reaction to pet dander which results in swollen eyes? Hives? Bad eczema flare up?

We stayed in our shared holiday home for a number of days and on day 4, DS woke up with the above mentioned symptoms. As it's shared, other family members have dogs and always bring them here and were there the weekend previous with their dogs. DS nothing new to eat so we are baffled as to what it could be. He has a milk allergy so I'm very aware of what he eats. We can't think of anything else it could be but is it possible it took a number of days of being exposed to pet dander for him to take a reaction or is it something else entirely?

I would have thought that the reaction would set in quite quickly. You don't have any feather pillows there do you? My son has a peanut allergy and the other day he was holding a cushion which is stuffed with feathers and he had a really bad reaction to it.

We hadn't known that he was allergic to feathers.

No, we bring all our own bedding with us too. I'm completely baffled!! One of his eyes was barely open

Poor love! If in doubt get him checked out - you don't want to mess with allergies!

I'd be surprised if it was the animals suddenly after 4 days.

Allergies can occur at any time and so it does sound possible. Hayfever is another possibility.

I have got a GP referral to a private clinic for allergy testing so hoping we get an appointment as soon as!

Has he suddenly stopped taking antihistamines? They may have been holding the reaction at bay?
