Hi don’t know if I’m posting in the right place.
my daughter is 12 months old two nights ago she scratched her leg and it come up like a big hive was red with white swollen scratch in middle she also had two small spots next to it, I didn’t think much of till the following day when she did the same again but this time there was loads of hives, I took her to urgent care and they said it was a reaction to the coconut oil she had for the first time that day. This morning I got some piriton and gave her some butterflies she is still getting hive when she catches her bare legs but no where else. Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening? Thanks

Have the hives gone down with the Piriton @Mum23girlies?

Has anything else changed like her milk or your washing powder?

Mum23girlies · 22/03/2023 20:31

Hi the hives come up and last like 5-10 minutes but I gave her some this morning and they have still come up throughout the day.
haven’t changed anything else she has been cows milk since the 4th of March but nothing else.

Have you tried putting her on sterilised cow's milk? If she's got a problem with the milk, it's easier for her to digest.

Mum23girlies · 22/03/2023 20:37

I will look into it but she has been on formula since a week old and been having dairy products since 6 months old.

She is sitting on my lap now and was just sucking/biting on her wrist she is cutting some teeth and instant hives have come up.

Is it just where she scratches herself/where there's some friction?

I wonder if it's dermatographia.

Mum23girlies · 22/03/2023 20:43

Yeah it’s only appearing where her skin is not covered

This is what her leg looked at yesterday

Speak to your GP about dermatographia, it really does look like it.

SquashPenguin · 22/03/2023 20:54

Sounds a lot like physical urticaria. If I scratch my skin (with my own nails or by accident like bumping into something) I come out in hives. Dermatographism is the proper name for it, literally means skin writing. I’ve had it all my life.

Mum23girlies · 22/03/2023 21:02

Hi thanks would it come on all of a sudden wondering if it is linked to her 1 year injections she had them 2 weeks ago or maybe she might be getting ill.

OP posts:
SinisterKnitter · 22/03/2023 21:41

Can definitely come on all of a sudden.

Mum23girlies · 22/03/2023 21:47

Thanks will definitely mention this to the doctor, is it itchy?

OP posts:
SinisterKnitter · 22/03/2023 22:09

Hives can be itchy, I haven't had that specific type but maybe @SquashPenguin can help.

Mum23girlies · 22/03/2023 22:27

Ahh ok thanks

I’ve just scratched this smiley face on my arm to show how the hives come up! It’s a weird thing to have but totally harmless. Occasionally I can get a big flare up where I don’t stop scratching. Hives being itchy make me itch them and the cycle continues! But it’s never something that a bit of piriton can’t put a stop to.

My friends used to scratch their names on my arms at school 😆

Omg that’s pretty cool lol 😂 definitely think that’s what she has, saw the doctor today and doesn’t think it’s an allergy she is just having a reactive response? They said she is too young for any testing and to see how she goes. Thanks so much for all the help
