Experience with nutramigen LLG

Has anybody experienced increased pain/discomfort/fussiness on Nutramigen?
My son is 5 weeks old and was diagnosed with a cows milk protein allergy after bloody discharge in some bowel movements and frequent fairly loose stools. However aside from that, he was a totally content baby, even when pooing around the clock and having these weird nappies - never cried unless hungry or having a nappy change, and even that wasn't all the time. Sleeps easily but when he is awake is also happy in his crib, on his playmat etc, wouldn't even cry during tummy time.

We were prescribed Nutramigen LLG to manage the allergy, but since starting it he is SO unhappy during and after feeding, seems to have very painful gas (arching back, squirming, tensing up and screaming in pain). His bowel movements are much firmer than before, don't think it's quite constipation because they are not pebble-like and he is still going very frequently, but there are lumps in the nappy that are solid enough to pick up.

I called the doctor back because it seems so counterintuitive that if the cows milk was hurting his stomach, why was he not showing any distress, but now on a formula that should be easier to digest he is in constant pain.
Feeding takes an eternity and we are both crying nonstop. Thought we were having some luck with infacol because we used it and he fed normally a few times (although eating little and often rather than 6x a day like before), but either it was a fluke or coincidence, or it has stopped working because current feed he was so distressed.

Doctor says it takes time to adjust to the new formula so they won't do anything until he has tried it for the full 2 weeks, but I can't see any examples of other people experiencing increased discomfort. Has anyone found this? Or does anyone have any tips to relieve the gas and pain to help us survive this 2 weeks?

Just bumping for you as I haven't had experience of this. It's me with CMPA, not the DC Flowers

My 6 month old has a cmpa and is on nutramigen.
Just Incase you didn't know (I'm sure you do) nutramigen still contains cow's milk, but the protein in the milk has been broken down already which makes it easier to tolerate. If you don't see a difference after a while I would ask for a formula that's not got any cow's milk in (I think neocate is one but not sure as my DC us ok on nutramigen)

Thank you - I believe the formula is doing the job in treating the cows milk allergy as his bowel movements have improved drastically and his eczema has cleared up. These other symptoms are new and only started when he started on his formula. I believe it's causing him reflux because he spits up during or after most feeds, regardless of how long he is kept upright for, and often wakes in pain put down for a nap. He also gets hiccups all the time and often makes gulping noises when he's not feeding as if he is swallowing something back down.
I have called the paediatric clinic for a third time, nurse I spoke to didn't think there was anything that could be done but is getting a doctor to ring me back later. Feels like we are getting nowhere. I am tempted to try a thickener like carobel but instructions are only to use on the recommendation of a healthcare professional and I can't get anyone to acknowledge that anything is wrong.
Feeling beyond frustrated with the healthcare system currently, honestly feel like I have been repeatedly ignored at every turn since the moment I went into labour.

@rachelisntcool what ended up happening with your little one's feeding? We're currently in a very similar situation and it's pretty miserable.
