Hiya

Just hoping someone can please give me a bit of advise

We have found out recently that DT1 has allergies to the following

Milk
Cows cheese and yoghurt
All fizzy drinks inc water
All fruit Juices
All dilute juices

Air freshnbers
Detergents
Soap
Creams

How hard is it do get things milk free arghhhh

Obviously I am still finding my feet with it all and have found soya yoghurt( althou he dont really like it) a good alternative for him as well as aprosoy puddings.

Rice milk- I think?

Dairy free cheese- wow how expensive lol

Got soap and shampoo with no yukkies in it too

Now my question is- He can have water- plain although I have heard someone talking about essence to add to water?????? would that be the ones you get at the baking secton asked in holland and barret and they said they aint ever heard of it

Hope someone can help and I would greatly appreciate any tips on milk free products

We took him to a chiropractor as that was the cheaper option couldn't afford to pay the fees the doctor asked for.

We are going back in 2 weeks with supplies i.e soap powder certain foods etc to see how he reacts to them.

It was purely muscle testing no needles etc- know dt1 would deffo not tolerate that. He is currently awaiting an appt with our local autism specialist

Milk free is no problem, have to do a lot more cooking from scratch though,
fruit pots (the kind for weaning) are a good alternative pudding.
Drinks wise I guess its water although that is actually best for you anyway.
What sort of allergy is it?

SisterBee · 06/02/2008 20:01

hmmm. if you really think he's allergic to all that i wuld imagine your GP needs to refer him to some allery specialist who could do some 'real' tests.

cherryredretrochick · 06/02/2008 20:18

Sorry only just read bit about autism specialist, tbh i would wait for there opinion if the allergies are not dangerous kind.

TheBlonde · 06/02/2008 21:03

Having googled a bit I would say you would be much better off saving up and seeing a proper allergy doc or asking to see one on the NHS

Hmm, didn't know chiropractors could allergy test ? I would check with gp. My dd was sent for allergy testing after her eczema became more and more reactive and out of control. We had a basic question and answer session with the two eczema professionals she sees regularly, plus a doctor who specialises in allergies. Then went back last week for a blood test. Does not hurt as cream is used to numb the area.
Some time soon we should find out what if anything she is allergic to, which could help control her eczema. May I ask what symtoms your son has ?

Christywhisty · 06/02/2008 21:13

YOu cannot diagnose allergies using muscle tests! Kinesiology is quackery and dangerous.
One of the problems is that they will give you a long list of allergies, which cannnot be replicated using legitimate tests.
applied kinesiology

Why do you thnk he has allergies? What are his symptoms

Jambuttie · 10/02/2008 19:18

Sorry forgot to come back and postr here

KNew he had mild lactose intolerence as per gp appt around a yr back. He sontinues to have runny poo, crampy belly smelly farts!! etc etc etc

Just seen this thread, you need to get your Doctor to act responsibly and send your little one to the Allergy Clinic at your local hospital. How old is he/she (sorry, did not work our DT1? A bit slow).

DD2 is anaphylactic to all nuts and is allergic to timothy grass, soya, cats and all fluffy animal. She was allergic to dairy and eggs till 2 yo when she grew out of it. DD3 is allergic to Penicillin and Eggs. We are waiting to get an appointment for RAST and blood tests for DD3 at a year to make sure she is not allergic to nuts too. (v worried). We go to see the specialists at Frimley Park Childrens Hospital and they are great.

This is all on the NHS, no need to pay as your child should be cared for properly by the NHS docs. In our experience GPs are very scared of making allergy decisions and you need to have the proper tests done.

Where are you based? Perhaps I can help a bit further.
xx

Am so glad you came back, I have been very worried about you and your ds. I am so glad he is betterm is it behaviour based, there is a lot of research ito behaviour issues and food intolerances, I am sure if you look on some threads on here you will find lots of links.
Hows the diet going?

Mellieandmin · 10/02/2008 19:39

Just read that bit about the autism specialist. That is really interesting as we have had DD2 tested and the result was she was on the 'spectrum'. Allergies do seem to go hand in hand with behaviour and can sometimes be to blame. It maybe if you get the right diatician they can help with behaviour. What has lead you to an autism specialist?

Jambuttie · 10/02/2008 20:01

DT1(4) has been assesed at CDC for past 2 yrs and also seen phsychology regarding his behaviours, impulsiveness, dangers etc. We live in West Lothian and it takes years to see the autism specialist- only 1 in the area and she see's just 2 kids on a Friday am so you can imagine the wait- although they have said it will be April time.

I think yes I will get an appt for hi at GP- I went to chiro as we were at the end of our tether with him and couldnt figure out what we could do to help.

His diet in general is fabulous he ONLY eats certain food eg Brocolli-EVERYDAY LOL only really eats home cooked food too all fresh meat n veg that kind of stuff- gove him " kiddy" food like his brothers have eg crispy pancakes that kinda stuff he hits the roof takes ages to eat it if he does at all. Now we just feed him "proper" food tray and save the fight at meals times as they are a struggle as it is without any further struggles- but hey thats another story

So interesting to read that about the impulsiveness and routine. DD2 is now 10 and growing out of it all a bit I am pleased to say but at 4-8 she HAD to know what we were doing every second of every day. We had a 2 week holiday of hell when she was 6 in Spain as the change in routine was just too much. At that stage we did not appreciate just how much she depended upon her 'safe' space.

Food can be the devil in disguise. We have to avoid anything yellow. By the same token she seems to crave what she cannot have. She may only want 1 glass of water or blackcurrent juce but 10 of orange that will send her over the edge. Very aggresive and impulsive. Running with dangerous objects and breaking everything in reach.

We now have to work out what affects and what doesn't. We have found that some foods that bring on the allergies (too much dairy makes her very snotty) must also make her feel really agitated as her behaviour is terrible and swings to and fro faster than you can blink.

It is all trial and error but speak to the GP. Real allergies need to be diagnosed and dealt with for the sake of the little one. Hopefully you will get some let up with age and experience but I would get the proper tests so you know how to move forward.

Thanxs for your message hunni

His behaviours have been there since as long as he has LOL Always a demanding baby etc bless him wish I could take it all away

Have workmen in today and tomorrow but am going to get him an appt at GP Wednesday and ask that they too allergy test him.

As you are aware the behaviours these wee people are almost always difficult to deal with- have seen me and dh in tears by the end of the day but once we are all in bed- dt1 had his melatonin and asleep we can say " well thats another 1 over tomorrow another day, here's hoping its a better one" and as long as we remain positive then we hope it brushes off on the wee man
