Bloody hell - Trufree!

Trufree have just put MILK in their gluten, egg, nut and previously dairy free custard creams. These are the only biscuits DS2 can and will eat (he's 5, with ASD).

Does anyone know of any other biscuits (not chocolate as for some reason he seems to react even to cocoa) that are free from dairy, egg, nuts and gluten? Do you think a letter to Trufree might be in order?

I'd definitely write a letter or ring them if there's a phone number on packet. No idea about other biscuits. ds2 was allergic to all sorts, inc milk, as a baby. Thankfully, he outgrew everything overnight at 10 mths old!

Peachy · 25/01/2008 20:06

Bugger, anopther one off the menu for us as well (and scary BIBIC nutritionist says I have to go GF / CF when BF so for me as well- arse)

Letter definitely inorder I think

How annoying. I've just checked the back of ds1's juvela sweet biscuits and they are dairy and GF (we get them on prescription as ds1 has coeliac).

Have you looked as Sainsbury's free from range - I find them quite good for GF, and when ds2 was dairy free over the summer I got stuff for him - but I must confess I don't tend to look for GF and egg/dairy free all in the same biscuit.

sphil · 25/01/2008 20:12

Sainsburys tend to put egg in everything, unfortunately. I will write though.

Have you tried shopping with Goodness Direct? Even if you don't shop with them, you can at least use the site for 'research'.

I used to have box loads of stuff sent when DD1 had milk & egg allergy.

flamingtoaster · 25/01/2008 21:31

I did write to Trufree - they apologized but couldn't see the problem that they were taking one of the few treats away from children with multiple allergies.

Ener-G are very good as most of their stuff is gluten/wheat/egg/milk and nut free. Not all the stuff listed on their American site is available in the UK but their biscuits are listed here:

www.ener-g.com/store/products.aspx?section=3&cat=3

You can order Ener-G stuff through Tesco pharmacies and pay for it as opposed to getting prescriptions. If y ou go to the pharmacy they will tell you what they can order- they have a huge list.

Thanks everyone .

flamingtoaster,

Thanks for the info about Tescos and Ener-G: not everything they do is prescribable so it's worth knowing there are other ways of getting hold of it.

Hi there

just read that someone was advised to go gluten free when breastfeeding their ceoliac child!!! my youngest son and middle daughter are both coeliacs but noone told me to stop eating gluten myself. I have been wondering about this as we went gluten free with youngest (9months old) and he had an imediate change put on a pound in 2weeks then he got hold of some bad toast had diarrhea (cant spell) and hasnt been well since (3weeks ago) has put on no weight. I wondered about the breastfeeding but the ceoliac society said it was fine........ opinions please.

Hi
I have a dd who is allergic to all dairy, eggs, nuts to name but a few and we stopped buying the tru-free stuff because we found cheaper alternatives.
Tesco Ginger Nut biscuits are fine as are Lotus Caramalised biscuits (which she loves) also Tesco Bourbon biscuits are free from all the above.
Hope that helps

stirlingmum · 26/02/2008 17:58

Oh, and Jacobs Fig Rolls are dairy and egg free - A good snack too!
Tesco do fig rolls but they put milk in theirs!

Asda sell Orgran "outback animal" biscuits..these go down very well with my 2 dairy free kids

kmcomie · 07/03/2008 14:35

Hi, another alternavitve is the Organix range. I have found some great stuff from them and DD loves the animal biscuits so much i have to hide them. They are not loaded with sugar either and there snack bars we call cake and is seen as real treat.

thanks everyone else for suggestion i am shopping as i type for some new items to try.

Just had Trufree newsletter - they are "improving" the Chocolate Burbons by adding Milk to them as well. There will be a red sticker on them apparently. However, I feel another e-mail coming on, they really don't seem to care about children/adults with multiple allergies.

stirlingmum · 10/03/2008 18:28

Just buy the normal Tesco Bourbon biscuits. They have no egg or dairy in (but probably have wheat!).

flamingtoaster · 10/03/2008 19:59

stirlingmum unfortunately my son is highly allergic to gluten so normal Tesco Chocolate Burbons are not an option.

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/03/2008 12:16

Arghhhhhhh!!!!!!! Sorry, just had to get that off my chest! First the bloody custard creams and now the flaming bourbon biscuits. I am soooooo .

Grrr, my ds2 is allergic to milk, egg, nuts and wheat so these were a godsend. Thankfuly he can still have their rich tea type biscuits and Tesco free from shortbread. He doesn't like the tru-free ginger biscuits.

Thankfully his 2 year strict avoidance is nearly up and we can challenge, but there is no guarentee that he is no longer allergic.

Stirlingmum, perhaps a petition would be better?

flamingtoaster · 14/03/2008 14:01

Heartmum2jamie - I haven't had a reply to my e-mail re the Chocolate Burbons - they usually reply very quickly, but this time I was a bit more pointed than usual! A petition would be a good idea - but I doubt they would take any notice. I suspect cost may be driving this "improvement".
