Secondary lactose intolerance - will Colief do as well as SMA LF, only cheaper??

DS had the nasty norovirus just after Christmas and so we switched him to SMA Lactose Free. I saw the doctor last week about something else and brought the lactose intolerance up with her, asking how long it would last and whether we could get the excruciatingly expensive formula on prescription. Her answers were 6 weeks and no.

So we've already spent about £50 on formula over 3 weeks and I'm loath to spend the same again, but it occurred to me that Colief is lactase and only a tenner. Has anyone had experience of using Colief for secondary lactose intolerance? Does it do the same job?

ds2 had many allergies as a baby and we got soya milk formula on prescription. I'd ask again, maybe a different gp in the practice.

My DD has just been told that she may be cows milk protein intolerant and she was given milk on prescription. My FIL is a coeliac and he gets free prescription foods too. Seems odd they said no?

Our GP prescribed ds3 enfamil alctofree 9a goof alctose free formula I would recommend) for years for ds3. But they may not do it if it is for temporary purposes- there can be funny rules on this (DS1 doesn't get GF free foods for example as he is intolerant but not allergic, iyswim).

Have heard that colief has alctose in (!) but no real experience. Would recommend pro or prebiotic yoghurts for kids old enougha s they can be effective in helping with this but don't know the age of your LO
