Confused about nut allergy

Hi!
Hoping that anyone can relate to my current issue and maybe offer another perspective?

A few years ago, I had a serve stomach bug meaning I wasn’t eating for a few days. Once I began feeling a bit better I had a tracker bar (peanut bar). Within 10-20 mins I began breaking out in hives, itchy eyes and my asthma flared up. I took a hayfever tablet as I always suffer from hayfever and my inhalers to ease the asthma. It subsided but the next day I had very swollen eyes.

However, I have gone through your normal allergy testing, the pinpricks on arm but nothing came up for nuts. Yet whenever I eat anything containing nut products, my glands swell and I become itchy with my asthma flaring up again.

I was given a Epi Pen but this was never put on prescription by my doctors. It has now expired but I was looking at my doctors notes it says I have a nut allergy which is on going review? The last doctor said to me “just avoid all nuts anyway”.

I have no idea how to get another Epi Pen if my doctors are under the impression I am allergic?

any help would be amazing and much appreciated :)

thanks

Who gave you the epi pen?
Little used prescriptions often drop off your prescription list or, if it’s an order only when needed, it won’t be on your repeat anyway, just so a Dr looks at why/how often things are being ordered. I have a type of injection but I have to drop a written request in each time I need more, presumably because they are £50 per dose.
Try dropping a hand written request in F.A.O your Dr, they will either prescribe or send you a text to book an appointment to discuss.

You have a nut allergy in your notes and they are refusing to give you a prescription for an epipen Confused

I had a similar reaction when younger with peanuts, but in pregnancy had an anyphylatic response, so have an epipen.

Go for a prescription review so you can discuss it.

Oh and about, 'just avoid nuts,' comment, is really missing the point.

Even when being really careful, there can be cross contamination such as peanuts being in same factory and/or kitchen, so unless you are going to grow your own food there will always be some possibility in the food chain.

Phone your GP in the morning and explain.

So it was a doctor based in the allergy department at my general hospital who gave me the Epi Pen. I assumed it would be on repeat perscription so when I checked my prescriptions again it just isn’t there. I have moved doctors as well since then so going to have to try and ring and see if I can get anywhere!

Oh yeah I know! I had an Indian takeaway a while back and even stating I had a nut allergy and they assured me it was fine. I still ended up with swollen glands, itchy eyes, enlarged throat- must have been cross contaimination!
