Sun cream allergies

My 4 year old has a reaction to every suncream 😭. I have tried absolutely every single brand out there. He develops an awful rash after any sun cream. Dr told me to still apply the cream but to give piriton as well. I really don't want to be giving him antihistamines all of the time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. **

My son was very sensitive as a baby. I ended up contacting lots of companies for samples which most sent out for me (little sachets) and it saved a fortune. Sounds like you've tried most. How difficult, what kind of reaction? Can you be referred to the allergy team at the local hospital because that doesn't seem very good long term.

Have you tried non child brands. Altruist is quite good. Made by dermatologists.

You might have tried already, but I remember researching mineral based sun cream when my son was little. Could that have different ingredients? Otherwise UV suits I guess. What a pain for you.

Has the GP prescribed hypoallergenic sun cream?

Have you tried piz buin allergy?

I have tried every brand I can possibly buy both adult and child. GP has referred him to a dermatologist (which could take a while to be seen) as the rash he gets is very uncomfortable for him also. Hopefully dermatology will be helpful in the long run. It's so difficult for him. Esp at the moment with the lovely weather and his calm place is the Garden (ASD diagnosed and out of school routine proves tricky so the garden is his calm)

The only ones DD can use are Lidl's but not the waterproof and Malibu's Factor 50 spray which you can usually get in Home Bargains or B&M.

It might be worth trying one of those.

Calypso once a day is the only sun cream ds can use. Any others send his eczema into overdrive.

When DD was little, many years ago, GP prescribed Sunsense f50 because all other sun creams affected her eczema.

If he’s only 4 and going in the garden can you not shade it and or use sun protection clothing until they find him an alternative SPF top

Try Wilko own brand, it’s the only one we tolerate

DD (age 3) also reacts very badly to sunscreen. It flares her eczema and she scratches till the skin breaks. The only one we've found that doesn't do this is La Roche Posay Anti Helios for kids.

I appreciate it’s a bit late but I’m also really allergic to suncream (and a lot of other creams/soaps etc) I’ve ended up in hospital abroad twice from sun cream!

I used to use boots factor 50 kids hypo allergenic which was the only one I could tolerate but my friend recommended shade butter and its really good - she uses it on her kids. I was quite sceptical at first (and I still don’t sit out in full sun) but I’ve not been burned or had a reaction. It’s basically coconut butter and zinc! I get it from a local health food shop but it’s on Amazon.
