Itchy face and neck

Hi there, for a few weeks now I've had an itchy neck. Thought it was my perfume but I've binned it off and it's worse now. It feels like something is prickling my neck and lower face. Tried cetraben and Aveeno but I just want to rip my face off now 🙈. Any ideas please?

Have you changed your washing powder/capsules, shampoo or conditioner, any other hair products. make up, Suncream, do you wear necklace?

If you changed something it can take up to a couple of months for an allergy to show so doesn't need to be something you changed very recently.

Have you been out in the sun more? Could it be sun rash?

Antihistamines and anti itch cream will help in short term (pharmacist can advise) but you need to find the cause.

AnotherEmma · 12/07/2022 11:53

Heat rash. You could ask a pharmacist to have a look. I saw the GP for something else and asked him, he confirmed it's heat rash and advised taking antihistamines. I'm sure a pharmacist could do the same.

Thank you so much for replying both of you. I'm already taking antihistamines for hay fever. Went to boots at lunchtime and got some cream called Eurax and was advised to continue with antihistamines. All I can think of is the perfume but stopped using that a couple of weeks ago. Appreciate the advice xx

Gosh that picture is awful 😂

It could be a few things - shampoo, conditioner, face wash, body wash, washing power / tabs etc... Anything that you come into contact with could be the cause. There's lots of possibilities.

For me it's a lot of different washing tablets and shampoos. If I use DHs shampoo, my scalp is so itchy I end up cutting myself by scratching.

For the face and neck, it's also possible it's a food or drink allergy. They cna have very fast onset.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/07/2022 13:41

Thanks @RedCarsGoFaster that's interesting. Will start noting what I'm eating.

I started taking skin, hair and nail vitamins about a month ago. That couldn't be it could it?

OP posts:
RedCarsGoFaster · 12/07/2022 13:54

It's entirely possible! Stop taking them for a week and see what happens....

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/07/2022 14:07

I've read that too much vitamin b12 can cause a reaction

Take liquid Piriton as you can take it throughout the day and use antihistamine cream too.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/07/2022 14:21

Thanks pellegrino. I've called the doctors and was advised antihistamines and they can do a telephone appointment on 28th lol. Hope it's gone by then. You guys are really helpful Smile

VestPantsandSocks · 12/07/2022 14:25

I had something similar which was due an allergic reaction to an over the counter histamine. Took some Piriton but that was making me drowsy and really helping so took 180mg Fexofenadine for a week which calmed things down.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/07/2022 14:27

That's interesting because I have changed my antihistamines to a different name. Just boots instead of Aldi

VestPantsandSocks · 14/07/2022 06:03

OP - hope you are better?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/07/2022 10:40

Hi @VestPantsandSocks sorry just saw this. Really appreciate you asking. It's a bit less itchy but still not ok. I'm still taking the vitamins though as don't really want to throw them away Blush. I know I should stop.

OP posts:
RedCarsGoFaster · 17/07/2022 10:51

Just stop them, don't throw them away yet. If nothing improves in a month, start them again.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/07/2022 22:53

You're right actually as if it improves I will then need to start taking them again to be sure. I'll do that. Thank you x

Stopped taking them today. The itching is awful and I can't deal with it anymore 🙁

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/07/2022 10:15

Are you still using suncream, you need to stop everything while you're reacting like this. Wear a hat instead and stay in the shade.

The only time I had it like you have is when I reacted to a a Body Shop sofa, dear God it was awful!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/07/2022 09:09

Only used sun cream on arms. It's horrible isn't it? Day 2 of no vitamins and it feels a bit better.

OP posts:
teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/07/2022 09:10

Also no face cream or perfume

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/07/2022 20:33

Hi there just an update and thanks for everyone giving me advice. I stopped the vits 2 days ago and itching seems to have significantly reduced. That said it's not as hot now.

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/07/2022 20:36

That sounds good hope it's on its way out.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/07/2022 20:40

Thank you. I really appreciate your advice. My colleague thinks it's to do with sunburn and heat so I'll see
