How do you organise child’s bedroom/bedding to minimise dust mite reactions?

Ds2 has had a consultation re nut allergy with specialist and we dealt with dust-mite situation at same time. His skin-prick tests showed no reaction to grass, slight reaction to tree pollen, life-threatening reaction to Brazil nuts ( :( ) but biggest reaction was dust mite. This explains why he goes outside to “de-clog”

Doc wants him on Avamys in winter but nothing in summer. He wants us to improve bedroom dust management.
I’ve bought pillows/covers before but they get mixed up with rest of household/fall on floor. I’ve washed pillows at 40% but it made them unusable (the stuffing all went in a corner).

If you are managing dust better than me, how do you do it? Tips on laundering systems would be particularly appreciated.

There are plug devices that emit a sound wave that (apparently) interferes with the life cycle of the dust mite. Sounds feasible but unlikely, until my niece did a 'blind test' with hers to assess effect on hubby's breathing. It worked - nasal blockage much reduced. So, check it out on t'internet,

Wow. This might be the solution for me when I stay at my parents where I have to sleep an a very old mattress. It's too complicated for me to somehow get a new mattress delivered there without a way of getting the old one to the dump. This might be the solution!

Or take a mattress cover and put it on?

@Gwenhwyfar when we bought a new mattress the company removed the old one for us as part of the service.

You might need an actual mattress company not just argos or Amazon but it was reasonably priced.

If you can freeze soft toys to kill dust mites then can't you do the same with the pillows?
You could also look at camping pillows, some are just like a lilo but with thicker plastic that can be wiped down. I think you would need an other pillow as well.

If you have floor boards it might be better to cover them with tiles / lino that can be washed easily with no gaps.

When you vacuum the room vacuum the mattress too.

Mark out DS's bedding / matress cover etc by buying them in a bright colour or if they only come in white you can use acrylic paint with a textile medium, your DS might enjoy helping, you can put colours, pictures or just a giant X.

There's a mattress cover on the one in my parents' house. Obviously doesn't get washed often enough and doesn't help at all. I think covers might help with new mattresses, but this one is just full of mites after more than 30 years.
