DS thankfully outgrown Lactose Intolerance but we have 10 tins of Neocate left. Pharmacy dont want it back. Would love it go to good use but you would need to collect as its heavy. I live near Kingston on Thames.

Hi, just asking advice, what age did your DS grow out of it? I have a minded child 13 months old on Neocate and was wondering how long it is likely to be. Parents not that informative, and I get stumped sometimes when cooking lunch for 4 mindies and having to cater differently, or remember no dairy! Thanks

Hi
he was only 6 months which is great. Have to confess I took matters into my own hands and one day just tried him on regular formula. He wolfed it down and hasn't looked back ! I am now weaning him and having trouble with rice and wheat which I think is common with LI babies. Poor you with the extra catering -it is a bit of a drag.

Cans still unclaimed for anyone interested !

Hi Mousemole, I'm not claiming the tins [live too far away!] but would be very interested in your experience with 'ordinary' formula and Neocate?
I kind of got confirmation yesterday that ds3 is intolerant to dairy after a 6 month struggle to find a formula etc that he would take to,with no help from HV or docs. Ive got him on C&G comfort at the mo, but this still contains whey, and I did ask the Paediatrician if I should change formulas, but wasnt given a definite answer or what to try!

Was there a noticeable change when you tried Neocate?

[I'm hoping that you are going to say it led to your DS sleeping through the night!]

Could I just ask what symptoms your lo had with being lactose intolerent, I am wondering whether my ds is suffering with this atm. thanks.

His symptoms were:
tarry stool that smelled way too strong for a 6week old, he had a rah n his face that over time became like open wounds that oozed liquid and made his itchy(the drs thoguht it was eczema),he would cry about 30 mins after eating especiall at night. This went on until about 3 weeks ago when the gp said try antihistamine for the itching....after that the rash wasnt as red so I figured it was an alergy. We tried Nutramigen from when he was 2 months until he was 4 months, the rash was better but still open. Then I found out that Nutramigen is made with a cow's milk protein. So to confirm the allegy I gave him 1/2 cows milk formula with his nutramigen. He vomited and had instand hives...allergy confirmed.
I switched to Soy (eventhough 80% of infants with cows milk allergy are also allergic to Soy) It took about 7 days and the open wounded rash cam bak viciously. So now I am on day 3 of neocate...rash on rash is less red, no longer oozing, not open and he is sleeping better(i think he is now used to being up all night)
My only issue now....he has not pooped yet...I hink he may need some baby food to go with the formula as he may be digesting it too easily.
After all of this, the gp finally booked an appt with an allergist.....soooo frustrating. hope this helps. I found this website the most useful.... www.allergysa.org/milk.htm
its from south africa but it was how i found out about nutramigen having cows milk protein.
good luck.

thanks for that. DS is nowhere near as bad as that but he is red all over, it looks like bad sunburn and he is really dry. I have tried loads of creams etc but nothing has worked yet bar the antibiotics, so I'm not sure what's going on. Hopefully the doc will suggest something else tomorrow, she did say if he didn't get better after the last lot of stuff she would refer me to a dermatologist, but would they be able to help anyway??? I just keep coming back to the formula, I don't know what else it could be, if it was purely ezcema surely the hydrocortisone should have done the trick?
