DS is just one. He had reflux when a baby (FF) but this stopped with cow & gate comfort, I didn't use the Gaviscon he was prescribed. When I switched to SMA progress her got terribly constipated, he is BLW and eats a healthy mostly vegetarian diet. The constipation lasted 2 months or so until we switched back. I started him on cows milk at 10 months and he has been chronically constipated since. We have increased fibre/ decreased fibre, increased carrots/ decreased carrots, cut out yogurts, filled him up on beans, weetabix and digestive biscuits and lots more stuff all to no avail. He had 2 weeks of suppositories- no difference and I have just stopped the lactulose after a month and no improvement. He has been prescribed movicol today, but I have had enough of meds that don't work so I have decided to cut out dairy and try soy instead. I have bought Infasoy, but should I just be using soya milk? Any thoughts from anyone in similar positions please? Sorry if I've rambled. Thanks.

Glad she is happy fensmum. Poor lil thing. I wondered how they found out about it. They did feel my dd's stomache in hospital but no other examinations were done.

fensmum · 11/01/2008 11:56

When they felt there was a huge hard mass,i think its luck as to how much they can feel, depending on where the stool, is in the system!

Hope it sorts itself out for your dd x

So, I was so happy that dd came home again yesterday and yet again done a nice healthy soft poo! However we have had a terrible time with her again since she managed to go yesterday. All pain around her bottom followed by itching but this could have been her eczema lotion I used to help clean her with, I asked if it is a sharp pain and she said yes. It went on for hours before bed with her crying and being uncomfortable begging us to rub her bottom. She managed to get to sleep at the start of the evening but later kept us up for most of the night. Terrible moaning and groaning and there was nothing we could do. I gave pain killer but obviously didnt help much. At one point when she was standing up she said it hurts so much I cant move. Please does anyone know why this is happening. We had this alot before but now she is going toilet I cant see why it is happening. suggestions please, I dont have any more faith in doctors but if it keeps up I am going to have to take her back. I dont want her to go through anymore poking and proding

If her bowel is distended and she if she has been constipated for a long time I suspect it will be. Perhaps the pains are to do with her bowel emptying out. If I were you I would phone NHS Direct and try to get her seen a a harmony clinic today.

Hi - DD did have very sore bottom and itching and we were prescribed Anusol (also used for piles!) to put on her bottom and this did seem to help - you can buy it over the counter. Does her bottom look very red and sore around the "number two" area? I think with DD, it was because it had a small crack/tear/fissure and that had become very sore and possibly slightly infected. This might not be the same thing as your DD I dont know - depends if it looks red/sore. Think we had to put the cream on about three times a day and it did take a couple of weeks to heal. We always used wipes to clean her - those Kandoo toilet ones, rather than paper which is harsh if she is sore.

Also we were told to treat for worms - apparently worms more likely to happen if child has had lot of number 2 accidents and this can cause itching and add to the problems - treatment very simple single dose of medicine from pharmacy.

Hi it may be worth get dd checked for a water infection as often children with these problems seem to get these as well,it sound like some of the same problems my dd had, insist dd gets refered to the hospital.
Best of luck x

Hi, thanks for your replies. She got through Saturday and funny enough improved loads by Sunday. Did mention a burning feeling also in her bottom so did suspect hemroids from what I have read on web. However she is seeming ok now able to sit with no pain ect so will just play it by ear. Have sent a letter into school just in case. Maisykins-she doesnt seem to be sore looking at all and I have seen all her poos lately and cant see any worms. Will get her straught to doctors this week if anymore problems occur. Also changed her breakie incase of food allergy aggrevating her bowel ect. Shes a mystery!!
