It's the sugar-free things - calpol is the same. Sugar-free calpol has aspartame in, as well as being worryingly pink, why do they think kids need something that colour?? But you can get non-aspartame versions - but they have sugar in instead. Hope ds feels better soon.

Sugar is so much better than Aspartame

It grows - it takes a chemistry lab to make aspartame

Dr's always look at me as if I am mad when I say no thanks to free (prescription) calpol for DD

Yes, unfortunately sugar free usually means artificial sweeteners, it's scary how brainwashed people can get (and scandalous that we are told the sugar-free is better).
Same goes for soft drinks..
Katymac, you are not the only one, I get those looks too.

Ive removed aspartame from my sons diet as much as possible, he drinks water fruit juice or hijuice. I have found an organic lemonade and orangeade in the Suma Catalogue. The difference in his behaviour is incredible, every now and then i let him have something just to confirm my suspicions and he is appalling.

I like Rock juice - it tastes nicer too

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 24/12/2007 10:07

I didn't realise ABs had it in too.

where do you get aspartime free calpol from?

My dt2 is very intolerant to it, but I've never been able to get any that doesn't have it.

lottiejenkins - vimto is now aspartime free too, and free of colourings, etc. too.

Different antibiotics may well vary.

there isn't one 'standard' preparation of antibiotics, the vary one to another.

If you check the Patient information leaflet, it should list the ingredients of the specific drug your child has been prescribed.

Sometimes sugar syrups may not be appropriate to use, because they might affect the stability of the drug.
