Asthma, pet allergy, how do you cope?

Ds has asthma and is very sensitive to pets. We don't have any, but many of my friends and relations do have them.

Do you avoid visiting, or do you have coping stratagies that you can share?

At the moment ds is too young to do a peak flow and we only have the ventolin inhaler and access at anti-histamines.

ask them to clean/put the pets out b4 you visit. cant avoid people with pets all the time, but carry inhalor with you just in case he has an attack and leave if things get bad.

you can buy something that you rub on the pet's coat to reduce the allergens.I got it from the vets,I'm allergic to our beardie and so is my ds.

We have since found out that we are mainly allergic to the saliva. The liquid was not much good as our dog has such a profuse coat,I think it would work on a labrador type coat better.

hmb if it's your own pet sometimes you develop a bit of immunity to them.
However I avoid houses with dogs or lots of cats because I just suffer too much afterwards. Still let dd go to these houses but if she started getting allergic I wouldn't. Think avoidance is the best strategy, but if that's not possible I would keep the piriton and inhaler handy just in case.
