Eczema - eyelids!

Hello - long term eczema sufferer here. Had it terribly in childhood (head to toe wet bandages every night) and now as an adult flare ups on my hands and forearms a few times a year.

Anyway, I had a baby 4 months ago and since then have had a little patch on my eyelid. It started small and itchy and now my whole eyelid is dry and flaky and I'm starting to get it on the other eyelid now too...

I usually rely on a short course of steroid cream for any flare ups but obviously can't use that on my eyelids. It's been SO long since I've actually been to the doctor with my eczema because I've been managing it myself for since I can remember.

Has anything changed? Are there any new treatments worth bothering my doctor for or is it still steroid cream and emollient? (I use Diprobase which works for me)

Thank you!

Congratulations on the baby. I'm not sure about new treatments but wondering if you've ever been referred to the Allergy Clinic? It might be worth going abs asking fir a referral to there at least?

I had this, it was very painful. I don't have eczema but I did have the same issue on my eyelids and saw a dermatologist who did some allergy testing.

He was pretty certain it was my gel nail varnish and said it was very common. Do you wear gel nails? Anyway, it turned out to be an ingredient used in hair conditioners. I don't use conditioner so it must have happened at the hairdresser.

Maybe worth getting it checked out, it could be something other than eczema. If you're breastfeeding could you put some breastmilk on?

Thanks - yes I was referred to the allergy clinic when I was a child and had the patch test thing done. Maybe things can change?
Because I've had it for so long I do t use any creams/lotions/potions other than Diprobase and haven't changed my usual hair products and no gel nails either....I'm wondering if it's hormone changes or something but good idea to try some breast milk on it! I'll try that

I'd definitely ask to go to the Allergy Clinic again. I was only allergic to cows milk as a child, now I gave several allergies.

It's worth asking for as some of mine were a bit obscure and once I'd eliminated them the eczema cleared.

Hey, I’ve got this exact same thing.. it first arrived during pregnancy and then went away and came back when my daughter was 12 months, I’m breastfeeding and cannot get rid of it. Doc prescribed steroid cream but it hasn’t shifted it. Did you find anything to resolve it in the end?

My DSis had it in the exact same place as a child. When she cut out Dairy it cleared up. She no eats dairy again, but nowhere near as much, and it's never come back.

You should get this checked out as it's is very easy for eyelids to become infected. If it is eczema, then ask about protopic ointment, which is not a steroid and in my experience works brilliantly on the eyelids. I think it's technically tacrolimus (sp?)
