Hi all,
I have waited for 2 months for DS's allergy results and they arrived today. The main thing we wanted tested was peanuts because he has had a skin reaction to it in the past (I had eaten it and kissed him). BUT they "did not take enough blood" so tested for everything else and not nuts!!!!!! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGH!
His results say he has a grade 3 sesame allergy, do you know if there are any links to peanuts and if so would there be a rating similarity????

NOt sure of ds's ratngs but he is allergic to seseme seeds. He is also allergic to most tree nuts. He did have reactions to peanuts and tested positive in the past to peanuts, but his last test in August showed peanuts as clear. Consultant said to still avoid them though.

I don't think you could assume a rating similarity as, though quite a few people have both allergies, its perfectly possible to be allergic to one not the other.

at the hospital - but I think you'll have to get them to redraw blood and do the test

I only found out recently, but our local hospital has a walk in service for blood testing (including RAST) - your GP refers you, no need to go through allergy clinic, which really cuts down waiting times. Don't know whether yours does similar but might be worth asking.

We are booked in to go back for tests on Wednesday, it is just a bit of a bugger because we wanted to go to Thailand in february and were waiting for the results before we booked as if he has a serious allergy we would choose somewhere else! Now we hae to wait another 8 weeks, so will prob have to go somewhere else anyway just to be safe. More important I get the results, I know, but it is so annoying and kids just love having blood taken!

get them to do a skin prick test while you're there. It isn't conclusive but it will give you an idea. It shouldn't take 2 months for a result either unlss they lost them.

The anaphylaxis campaign website says "many" with sesame allergy have nut allergy so doesn't sound too hopeful. You could phone the helpline and see if they can say any more.

Could you self cater in Thailand and choose your airline carefully?
