The last holidays for us, (well pretty much all of them since dd1 was born) have ended up with us at the on site docs wating to be seen as either one or both the dd's end up infected skin with their ezcema. We always pack huge amounts of creams, have their meds handy etc, but everytime it ends up the same, mid way thro the week we end up at the docs. i think part of the reason is that we cant always afford a place with a tub, so do the best we can to get the dd's cleaned and soaked for etc, but not always possible in throughly cleaned washing up bowl etc.

does anyone else have these problems?

No, it's not just you. Ds has eczema, allergies and asthma and we ended up coming back from our holiday a week early this year after several trips to the doctor.

We were at a spa in France at the time, to treat ds's eczema and whilst that was improving the accommodation set off some really bad asthma attacks.

Going to visit relatives sets off his asthma and causes his eczema to flare up, so I am really reluctant to go and visit anyone. This makes life a bit difficult as all our relatives live hundreds of miles away, so unless they come up here we don't see them.

At the moment I can't face going anywhere as holidays seem a lot more traumatic than staying at home, but one thing I did think of was trying to arrange a house swap with someone else in a similar position.

I did think of writing a letter to "Allergy" magazine as I'm sure that there must be lots of people reading that who are in a similar position. Or I guess there's always mumsnet.....!!!!

my house is allergy friendly (hard flooring throughout, blinds or easy washable curtains in each room, onyl petes are fish and hamsters) . it has to be really. dd1 had an asthma attack at my sisters house as sister didnt put her cat out and clean b4 we went round. My other sister (mieow) is very good with dd1 allwergies and always has a good hoover b4 we come round (she has 2 cats and a dog).

I am gonna invest in the sleeping bags from cotton comfort to take on holidays (if we get one next year). just dont know if i can face it.

not such bad problems as yours. We have been on several of the cheap breaks advertised in the Sun. Some of the sites do chalets so you get a bath. I think the John Fowler site we stayed at down by St Ives had baths in the chalets. Hope that's not too far away/ too expensive for you.

problem with sun deals is you dont always get your 1st choce. we eneded up in clacton this year, the only heating was in the living room, the shower was rubbish, and the shower tray wasnt deep enough to fill up.

btw we also dont like to travel far as dh has herat problems, so if anything goes wrong we need to be able to travel back quickly.

I've wondered about not putting 4 choices on the sun leaflets - wonder if that works? Could you take a plastic toy box and use that as a bath or are they too big for that? Its a bit bigger than a sink and handy for all the other things you need to take.

misdee · 14/11/2004 19:23

i think they say if u dont put 4 choices then your application will be processed at the end. just really want to have a nice family based holiday, with entertainment laid on, creche facilities, indoor poor, etc etc but with a bath!! might check out butlins, see if they still have baths.

both are too big for plastic tubs and baby baths now.
