Nervous about introducing wheat and dairy

I think I'm probably being a paranoid first time mother.

Anyway, the background is this: my son is 7 months and 1 week old. He has been breastfed from birth with the occasional top-up of formula, until he was six months when I started giving him a bottle of formula at night. Around this time he started to get dry patches on his arms/legs/torso, which I thought might be eczema, but this has got a lot better with the application of some salve every night and reducing his baths to twice a week. There are still some dry patches, but they are much improved. He still has formula every night, which contains a milk powder. In terms of family allergies - I, my brother and MIL have mild hay fever, my husband and his sister sometimes have a reaction when drinking alcohol (in addition to the usual falling over one of course), and my SIL is lactose intolerant.

My son is doing well with his food so far, with no obvious reactions - has had an assortment of root vegetables, fruits, chicken, beef, tomatoes, and in the last week has had oats with no reaction.

I don't know why I feel so nervous about introducing wheat - I suppose just because I read so many stories about gluten- intolerance arising from people introducing it too early. As to the dairy, well I guess my SIL being lactose intolerant alarms me, but if my boy is already drinking formula then would other dairy be ok?

As you can tell from the long, rambling nature of this post, I don't really know much about food allergies/intolerances so could really do with some advice....

TIA

introduce one type of food a day, so that if he does have a reaction you can pin point what it is,whereas if he has had a number of things you will not be able to tell what it is.
iyswim?

dont worry, chances are he will be fine.

Ordinary formula doesn't just have milk powder in it, it is modified milk. If your son hasn't shown any reaction to that then I'm sure he's fine with dairy.

As for wheat, make sure you observe him after introducing it and if he seems to react then leave it for a while but if he seems fine then all is well.

Thanks for the advice - it's much appreciated. Given that he doesn't seem to have had a reaction to the formula, I'm going to try some cheese first, and then some wheat maybe next week.

Thanks again.

Try not to worry too much, even if someone in your family has severe allergies it doesn't mean that your DS will. My DS has allergies to wheat and milk and has asthma, eczema and hayfever but my other 2 children (one younger, one older) don't have any allergies. Just take it slowly so that if he does have a reaction you will know what it's to.
