EBF baby allergies

DS is 12 weeks and EBF. All was fine for the first few weeks but for about 6 weeks now he has had vv loose and often mucous-y poo, plus rash that flared when feeding. Weight gain was initially fine but he has now dropped a centile so I am concerned. The HV (and I) suspect an allergy - GP didn’t really give a shit but has reluctantly referred to paeds. I excluded dairy over 4 weeks ago (no difference), and eggs over 2 weeks ago (improved rash, but tummy remains bad).

While I wait for the referral - should I try also excluding other allergens eg soy? Hold my nerve with these two? Try something else entirely? Any wisdom appreciated!

I would wait till seen the dr. Your ds could be allergic to many things.

I experienced exactly the same. EBF, and my dc was covered in eczema since a week old.

Once he has been tested and found out what he was allergic to, I excluded everything from my diet. Transformation was quite astonishing. But it was quite hard, since I had to exclude dairy/egg/wheat and many others from my diet.

Thanks! Did you get skin prick testing for your little one? I’m reading conflicting things about whether it’s useful or you just have to rely on symptoms.

Thanks @ChairOnToast - having nothing left to sate the bf hunger is what I’m worried about! Sounds like it might be worth excluding soya though if it’s the same structure - could be that that’s stopping it from clearing up I guess. Do you remember how long it took for you to see a difference?

My ds had skin prick test and some of the reaction was extreme, quite scary if he was actually eating it instead of having miniscule amount through breast milk.
He was never allergic to soya, but his most severe allergy was to wheat and some fruit. He was also allergic to certain nuts too, but he out grew it.

I agree with pp, don't exclude more food until seen by the allergy specialist. I was advised not to by gp too, until we were seen by the paed.

Thanks both! GP gave me no advice whatsoever so reassuring to hear that I might be on the right lines - will keep persevering as I am until I can see the paediatrician. Yes I had read a bit about IgE/non-IgE - it seemed to me that there was an instantaneous reaction to my having eaten eggs (in a lightly cooked form rather than eg in cake) which is why I was wondering about skin prick testing. But obviously it could just be coincidence (and me desperately hoping I might be able to eat cheese again Smile)
