Hey guys my 4 month old is continuously scratching his face, head, neck and legs due to eczema. He has scratch mitts on all the time. I’m also worried about his development as his hands are covered al the time. What worked for your baby? I found zerobase to be of no help.

I was BFing and had to cut dairy and eggs for 6 weeks before noticing a change.
GP prescribed a steroid cream to reduce inflammation and we then used Doublebase Dayleve several times a day and Dermol 500 as a 'soap'.
Scratch sleeves work better than mitts and we still use these nightly at 18 months.
Use all cotton clothes and avoid baby getting too warm.
If the eczema is severe, talk to your GP about possible food allergies and the importance of weaning early with foods such as egg and peanut.
Good luck, eczema is horrid.

Agree to the dairy and egg comment!

My son had awful eczema which would flare up dreadfully.

Took me 5 months to cut out diary and then egg and soya. His skin improved and skin prick tests at 6 months showed milk and egg allergy. He's growing out of these at 2.5. His skin gradually improved and he's been eczema and moisturiser free for about a year.

You need to get it under control with a steroid cream and repair the skin. Once repaired you need to keep them slathered in moisturiser. Epidurm ointment worked well at night and we used oilatum cream in the day as it absorbed easier.

We tried loads. We saw a dermatologist after a huge wait and found we weren't using anywhere near enough cream. Should get through a tub or 500ml bottle every week or so!!

Aveeno cream was totally amazing and the only cream that dd didn't react to. Highly recommend trying it.

Insist on seeing a consultant dermatologist and allergist.
The Eczema UK Facebook group is good.
There’s a book called The Eczema Diet, I can’t recommend it enough.
In the meantime ask the GP to prescribe Piriton, emollients and possibly hydrocortisone. Don’t use soap in the bath and bathe as little as possible, maybe just once a week. The ScratchSleeves mentioned above are good.
Sending strength, it is tough but easier once you get the help you need to get the condition under control. Don’t stop asking till you get it xx
