Advice about Eczema & nut allergy & possible other food allergies

My DS (2) has severe eczema since born & we have just found out he has a nut allergy. however we are waiting to see an allergist to find out what other possible allergies he has.

We are currently using for his eczema - Cetraben emollient, Elidel, Elocon and Oilatum for the bath.

This morning DS woke up crying and scratching frantically at his stomach and kept saying sore and hot (he can't say much) but I understood that his skin was sore and hot so I applied Elocon, Elidel to the face and neck and left it for 20 mins before applying the Cetraben.

I really feel like crying when I see him obviously distressed by his eczema.

Any advice guys? I feel totally helpless.

Thanks. I think its ok because the Dermaltologist asked me what Oilatum I used and I replied the junior so I guess its ok - she did say what you said about the purfume in the adults one.

Eumovate steroid cream (0.5%)and Calmurid cream on prescription are the only combination that really worked for me between the ages of 5-15. The Calmurid can sting a bit but can be watered down with aqueous cream. The steroid cream needs to be this strength to nip a flair up in the bud.

Also putting oatmeal in the bath really helps and you can get Aveeno (oat based toiletries) on prescription too.

Other stuff you're probably already doing, like buying clothes with a high cotton content, keeping nails cut short and just stroking the sore skin softly can be soothing.

I know how awful the itching feels and how painful it is to have cracked and weeping skin. I used to run my hands under gradually hotter and hotter water to kill the itch and then plunge them in cold water - oh the relief!

I agree because my GP said what you said but I guess the Dermatologists know best eh??

We are currently giving our 2 year old piriton in the evening to reduce the itch and his scratching. GP gave it on prescription
Might be worth a try for you

Misdee recommended www.eczemaclothing.eu/ to me. I have bought some of the pjs and they are v soft with the seams on the outside
They also sell some kind of cooling toy thing to cuddle when the skin is hot and sore

Forgot to say you can obviously just buy the pirition if you want to give it before you see the GP
(sorry unsure of how to spell it)
