Is there such a thing as a seasonal allergic cough no other symptoms?!

End of March last year for a couple of weeks I had a sensation of itchy, tickly irritation in my throat/chest, it made me cough but I could control/suppress it if I wanted to. I know it was March last year as was worried at the time that it could possibly be Covid (although there were no tests to be had at the time) and I had no other symptoms.

Fast forward to this March and for the last few days these symptoms have started again. The tickly/irritating dry chesty feeling with annoying but controllable cough.

Half an hour ago I took an anti-histamine tablet and the feeling has completely disappeared and I feel totally normal! So now this plus the fact that I've had the same symptoms exactly a year apart lead me to believe this could be some sort of seasonal allergy. But is that even possible without the sneezing/rhinitis/itchy eyes normally associated with hayfever?

Also to add my work-supplied Covid tests are negative so definitely not that!

Absolutely. I suffer in spring and autumn but never in hayfever season. It's to do with the mould from leaves rotting apparantly. Get in the habit of taking an antihistamine every day. You'll feel better in no time.

Do you get a runny nose and watery eyes with it? I get this too lately but with runny nose and watery eyes!

I had this same thing last year too! Cough, tight feeling in chest and slight breathlessness. I was also paranoid it was Covid.

This year I have the slight cough and tightness again accompanied with eyes that keep streaming and the odd sneeze. I think it must be some sort of hay fever which I’ve developed since being pregnant. I never had any sort of hay fever or allergy before except the very occasional small bit of eczema on one finger. During pregnancy I developed a contact allergy to grass where my hands/feet would get unbearably itchy if I touched it. I think it morphed into a type of hay fever last year.

My hay fever sometimes causes a cough- tickly throat, really irritating type that doesn't seem to produce a proper decent cough so doesn't actually clear, if that makes any sense? Sometimes with other hay fever symptoms but sometimes on it's own.

Yes huggzy that's a perfect description of my cough! Sounds like a few people have had something similar, I'm wondering if it's some sort of tree pollen (I am surrounded by trees!). It's not having any other hayfever symptoms that threw me a bit. No watering eyes, no nasal issues at all, just this chest/cough irritation.

Hi
I totally understand how you are feeling. It's tough.
Both of my children suffer from severe allergies and eczema.

Weddings/parties i struggle the most. I cook everthing from scatch and try to mirror the menu they will be having.
By the time we get there I'm exhausted.

I still have to mindful, my boys suffer from contact reactions. ( I'm sure I've been called a helicopter parent once or twice lol)

These past 6 years have been difficult and lonely.
But having the right attitude and optimism changed my life. I've dedicated all hours to ensure my children have the best start in life.

And I will continue to do so, to the best of my abilities.

I've started with this last week and started the same day I'd been doing the garden, digging up weeds and moving flowers/bulbs every day for 5 days, I've kept inside today and started taking some anti hestamines and feels ok. No cough at all during the night and only comes on if I get thirsty (Im terrible with drinking water) or I forget to breathe. It feels more like a tickling or itchiness in the throat rather my chest and more like I'm clearing my throat. My eyes do feel like 'tired' and heavy but I feel otherwise completely fine, full of energy and no breathing issues otherwise. I've done the LFTs a few times, and hasn't been anywhere or seen anyone for 6 days prior to my 'symptoms' and all negative.

I think by the rules I should probably get a full pcr test but it all points to Hay fever.

Have you still had it OP?

Yup, linked to hayfever but symptoms vary for everyone, I got diagnosed with 'seasonal allergic asthma' very recently.
