What do I do now?

Can anyone help? Qualified Dr/Nurse?
I was looking forward to getting the vaccine for COVID-19 only to find out that I am allergic to polyethylene glycol in the Pfizer vaccine and the polysorbate 80 in the Astrazenica vaccine.
I’m really scared now that I can’t have some protection against this virus that has killed people I know. 😢

How do you know? Genuine question. I have anaphylaxis with nuts and several other allergies. The only advice I've heard is that you should get AZ and check ingredients. I presume I am ok because I've not had a reaction to medicines before?

I have no idea about how you reqest AZ or where they just know because I have EpiPen?

Cinderstella · 23/02/2021 13:59

My body can’t tolerate coming into contact with household cleaners, cosmetics and toiletries. Both the ingredients above are in just about all household cleaners, cosmetics and toiletries. Everything I use has to be organic. Before “organic” became popular I had to wear rubber gloves to shampoo my hair, couldn’t wear make up, found it difficult if I was in a house where air freshener or perfumes had been used. It was truly debilitating.

Gosh...that sounds horrendous. It's interesting. My mother has allergies that are different to mine and she had quite bad reaction to the Pfizer vaccine. She is however sensitive to some make ups and cosmetic products. I wonder if this explains it a bit.

It’s possible@Mumteedum. It might be worth her seeking advice from her GP before deciding whether to get the second dose.

Thanks @Cinderstella. She has but they've not been much help. I don't think they seem to know what to do. Did you have a diagnostic test for allergens? I suppose it's unlikely they'll be doing those just now or in time for her second jab.

Cinderstella · 24/02/2021 08:56

Yes, tested for allergies a few years ago by my Dr. I also have allergies to a couple of foods and animals too. 😢

Ahhh yes I have lots of animal allergies. I was tested but not for chemical products. I also found it interesting they told me I was not allergic to some nuts that I know I react to. I suppose they can't test for everything...

I have various allergies but no epipen when I went for vaccine they offered both, but discussed and said I should have Pfizer, felt rough for about 3 days. I have some medicine allergies, nuts, and animals

Mumteedum · 24/02/2021 16:43

@Thoughtcontagion that's odd. I was told that the Pfizer was the problem one for allergy sufferers.

Ceriane · 24/02/2021 20:06

How about the Moderna? Are you able to have that? I have a condition called angioedema and was turned away for the Pfizer but was able to have the Astra Zeneca. A lot of people on my support group have a lot of allergies and some of them have been turned away for both but could have the Moderna.

Cinderstella · 24/02/2021 22:30

Thank you@Ceriane. I will look into that.

@Mumteedum if you have an Epi pen then from what the doctor told me there they’d give the Oxford one but I don’t have one as my allergies aren’t severe enough although I have many, but never ended up in Hospital probably because I avoid everything. I was ok after it just spent 3 days in bed. So I think epipen = no Pfizer
