Constant runny poos...Where do I begin?

Hi

DS is 2.9, he has loose poos at least once a week. In fact I would say his poss are generally more loose than solid.

Has anyone else come accross this? Have any idea where I would even begin to identify what he's allergic to, if it is an allergy?

It seems to have got worse recently and now Im worried about potty training , would probably be a disaster until this is sorted.

I'd google toddler diarrhea if I were you. Take him to the GP to rule out everything else (once you've cut out juice and down on fruit, of course!). And then follow the toddler diarrhea diet if everything else is negative.

Until dd was potty trained she never had a solid poo in her life. She is 4 now and still soft but they are actually formed now (what a conversation lol) I used to worry about it but "toddler diarrhoea" is quite common though.

I came to the conclusion that when dd was in nappies she was just pooing cause she would sometimes go more than once a day but when she was potty trained she was holding on a bit more until she needed to go so it was a bit more formed as she only goes once a day now. I would say really unless there are any other indicators that he has allergies then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks Ineedacleaner-(btw so do lol)-that does put my mind at rest as yes he goes sometimes as much as three/four times in a day! and yes what a conversation eh!

CorrieDale whats the toddler diarrhea diet? He rarely drinks juice and two pieces of fruit max a day (he's a big fusspot) and has only really ever drunk water and milk.

Both my dd's get what you are describing. With them it is related to wheat. If I remove wheat from the diet, poo sorted! It's quite a common allergy in little ones i think.

DS was diagnosed with toddler diarrhoea, wasn't convinced turned out to be a wheat intolerance.

It could be gluten intolerance (coeliac disease) - wheat, barley, rye. If so, your GP needs ot be involved. However start with the toddler diarrhoea recommendations:

The diarrhoea will often stop if the child:

  • has a good amount of fat in the diet (whole milk etc)
  • does not drink too much fruit juice or squash
  • has meals that include enough fibre.

probiotics are a useful addition to the diet of kids with "toddler diarrhoea". Wouldn't worry too much about it as it's unlikely to last for life.
