Do GP's do it ? Or would they recommend me to the hospital?

Or... would I have to go private somewhere ??

Anyone managed to get one on the nhs ?

yes your GP will refer u to the hospital. Make sure u get a 'skin prick' test they are more reliable than the blood test.
Good Luck

But don't (I'm sure you wouldn't but just in case) be taken in by the tests you can get at heath food shops and places like that. And (and I'm sure you know this too) you can't diagnose allergies from a hair sample.

Thanks seeker...

No - Think I will go to the GP and start there at least.

Thanks again

The skin prick test isn't always more reliable than the blood test - DS had a negative skin prick test for egg but is highly allergic!

A skin prick test won't diagnose an intolerance only a true allergy. For lactose intolerance you can get a hydrogen breath test done, but it will depend on the age of your DD. I've had to fight to get one for DS but we are finally having it done today! And yes it is being done on the NHS. I got a referral to a peadiatric consultant from my GP but it's taken us months to get this far. Will let yo know how it goes.

I agree with the previous poster, there are not many tests that I know of available for intolerances, but you can ask for skin prick or blood tests for allergies.

Well DS had a lactose breath test today. He wasn't allowed to eat anything at all this morning. At 9:30 they gave him a lactose solution to drink - it was clear & sweet, kind of syrupy. He had to drink the whole cup in about 10 minutes. then he had to blow up this bag every half hour for 2 1/2 hours. He's 4 1/2 and no problems at all with the test. I should have the results first thing tomorrow. I think there are other ways of doing it with much younger children - like testing stool samples but don't be sucked in by any intolerance testing you see in health food shops and the like. They're pretty much all scams.
