Eyelid Dermatitis

Desperately wondering what successful treatments you've tried for eyelid dermatitis? DD is going through a nasty flare at the moment. Specialist has prescribed a range of corticosteroids which do clear the eye area but as soon as we come off them it flares again.
Has anybody had any luck with Protopic ointment 0.03%? Did you find you had to use it for long? I'm concerned about it's long term use given the black box warning on the .GOV website about its associations with lymphomas.
And if anybody has had any luck with non-steroidal ointments (e.g emollients) that have managed to tackle the redness and itchiness, id love to know about it. Thanks!

The best thing that works for me is olive oil - soothes the itch and slowly eliminates the crustiness

@doradoo thanks. Is that when your eczema is active, raw and inflamed?

I think mine was peri orbital(?) dermatitis? I was prescribed steroid cream by GP. There were no NHS dermatology appointments, so I had to go private. Both the consultant and google said that steroid creams were the worst possible treatment. I was prescribed Protopic cream. It worked....but, be very, very careful. The slightest bit of sunlight (even through a car window), or alcohol, made it burn like anything!! But, it did work. Good luck.

Mine gets bad at this time of year usually - dry heating /cold outside - then red itchy flakey lids - not diagnosed - but olive oil the only thing I've found that helps - and of course is natural too.

@Oldieandgoldie thanks. How long did it take for protopic to clear it? Did you have to go on a maintenance dose to keep it up? Did you have to avoid sunlight only while you had the cream on?

@doradoo yes. I've tried smothering her in organic Shea butter (she doesn't have any known tree nut allergies so I thought why not give it a go?)

I can’t remember how long I used the cream for, maybe about two weeks? I’ve had no problems since, maybe about five+ years ago?

My daughter had very severe orbital dermatitis and used protopic , started on the higher strength and then swapped to the lower . It worked wonders and she now only needs to put the lower dose on at the first sign of a flare up and it deals with it straight away . Prior to using protopic the only thing that helped was prednisilone tablets , no steroid creams worked .

@Oldieandgoldie @Floralnomad that's reassuring to know that Protopic cleared it and you haven't had to use it as a maintenance dose.
Glad things are on the up for you!
