I agree that you should do what is appropriate to protect your child. It sounds to me that you were reasonable in the way you brought the issue to the school and the PTA. Have the members of the PTA changed since last year, and if so, do they understand the potential severity of a nut allergy?

I have similar issues as my dd is lactose intolerant, and that just makes her sick, it's not life threatening. At a new playgroup, she was given a glass of milk because they had run out of forms on which I would have drawn attention to the problem. At another playgroup, I find it really difficult to explain to other mums that she can't have cheese etc at snack time - last week a plate of cheese cubes was put on the table directly in front of her. I know some people think I am being fussy, but they don't have to deal with the sick child later in the day if she eats something she shouldn't.

Assuming your DD is anaphylactic to nuts I would have probably done something similar.

DS is actually npoe being very sensible and won't touch food I haven't provided - after huge issues last winter and spring over it.

Out PTA sticks to the schools no nut policy though so it is the eggs we have an issue with so as long as DS avoids all cakes we are fine

I'd have done the same at primary school and your child's still primary age, I think?

Are you active in the PA? I always was so when a parent said something like "I don't think we have any nut allergic children do we" or " I don't understand what all the fuss is about" then they got politely told about it. I also screened any food brought in and anything with obvious nuts in it was put aside. It was then included in a raffle or donated to the staff. Helped that the PA chair also had a nut allergic child, although not at the school.

If you paid to attend I think I'd demand a refund.
