Evil poos

DD2 is around 11 mths and likes her food. But my word are her poos evil - food seems to go through very quickly (sometimes whilst eating, runny and very very smelly.

Sorry hate to talk about poos - but is this normal or do you think there is an intollerance lurking there?

just a word from mum of dairy-intolerant boys and apparently normal girl... try the 'big' ones, dairy and wheat. Paediatrician we see says it's always "mum detective" that figures it out, by gut instinct (xcuse the pun) and huge food diaries.

And all the threads i post on seem to be to do with snot, poo and boobs. ah well. join the club

gigglewitch · 09/10/2007 21:19

and yes, it does sound like my boys. is she having excess mucus at times too? (see...warned you- snot!) eczema?

PillockInThePumpkin · 09/10/2007 21:22

yep, sounds just lik emy dairy intolerant ds1 too

ohmum · 09/10/2007 21:24

Darn was afraid of that - will have a chat to doc and keep food diary to see what is going on.

Snot levels sometimes high - but to be expected as at nursery!

Cheers

i'm an adult allergic to dairy & wheat, the symptoms don't change, sorry.

hobnob57 · 09/10/2007 21:27

Yep, try dairy first, then gluten. My dd's poos were a very evil vinegary smell before we cut out both of these.

ohmum · 09/10/2007 21:27

Shannaratiger - sorry bit late for me - what do you mean by 'the symptome don't change?'

take it you've already got the idea but taking all away is scary, but better, DS2 has been dairy free since birth. Can get soya yogurt, ice cream, carob (choc-ish) biscuits, everything. vitalite marg is dairy free. we also found goats milk fab for fixing eczema and apparently they used to use it in hospital for stomach ulcer patients because it's so good for healing. it is good to have in your freezer cos it works pretty much like cows milk for cooking and u can make sauces, pancakes and all sorts using that, it's just a little more watery. we use goats cheese too (the 'hard' pasteurised version). soya milk is cr@p in cooking it can't really be heated.
if u need any more practical ideas when your brain gets going on it all, give us a shout!

Shannaratiger · 09/10/2007 21:36

when little dairy allergy caused eczma. now wheat causes stomach cramps constipation/ diahreaetc. and swollen joints, (after years of eating it) dairy just makes me sick after so long.

Shannaratiger · 09/10/2007 21:40

i've never had a problem cooking with soya milk or free from marg. some fab cook books out now for wheat and dairy free. (not that i do alot of cooking/ baking)

gigglewitch · 09/10/2007 21:47

BTW think you can still get soya baby milk on prescription for DD from gp i.e. free til she's ?two.

ohmum · 09/10/2007 22:05

Thanks all

problems like this in babies are often outgrown, usually by 3, sometimes by 5 - so it may not last until adulthood. It's also possible for a problem with wheat to cause dairy intolerance and for a wheat free child to regain the ability to have dairy.

Personally I'd try goats milk (more easily digested) before abandoning milk and giving live yoghurt/ cheese before abandoning all dairy. Probiotics can help deal with dairy and so can lactase drops. You can get probiotics in a health food store but for lactase drops you'd probably have to search online.

hey, interesting post tatt. fingers crossed some of our small peeps grow out of this i have hopes on one of mine but not the other, he's too complex.
Just came back to say (of evil poos) the soya milk makes my DS still do evil smelling poo, just human in appearance and texture ok tmi on this thread but u did ask...

PillockInThePumpkin · 11/10/2007 21:44

ds1 has almost grown out of his, he has just turned 4 and has been back on dairy gradually for the last year, with major improvements in the last 6 months, just a shame I'm now starting all over again with ds2

gigglewitch · 11/10/2007 23:18

PITP u have given me hope
