Silly question perhaps-nut allergy

I have an incredibly severe nut allergy, to most nuts. Should I be careful giving my son nuts, is it in any way hereditary? Should I get him an allergy test?
Not that I will likely be giving him anything containing nuts as it's a big risk to life for me.

Yes your allergy makes it more likely that you son will have an allergy (but not necessarily the same one) and there is some evidence that not introducing foods increases the chance of an allergy developing. The NHS website said to check with GP before giving child high-allergy foods if there was a parent with an allergy, but when I tried, two GPs said it made no difference and to give her whatever.
My husband has an anaphylactic allergy to nuts and sesame and I’ve given DD small amounts of peanut butter very carefully (carefully so as to make sure she doesn’t smear it all over the house and cause a reaction in him).
Obviously don’t just take my word for it, you could try talking to your GP about it?

Thank you for replying! Yes I've found a lot of conflicting information so I'll ask his doctor x

I have a severe nut allergy. Advice with DC1 was avoid all nut exposure. Five years later and DC2, expose them to nuts. DH had to do this as I simply couldn't.

Both DC have inherited my severe allergies. Good luck, it's not easy.

Definitely allergy runs in my family. I am allergic to something, luckily not too severe. Both my sister and my ds has fatal allergy. .

I have anaphylaxis. My kids don't now (so far, they both outgrew CMPI at 14mo). We try to feed them my main allergens in restaurants when DH can serve and clean them up, but it wasn't a deliberate strategy, given they were already avoiding dairy. We don't let my allergens in the house, because it's not worth the risk.
