Ds2 had a hospital appointment a few weeks ago to see his imunologist. Like always, we saw a registrar. When I asked what would happen when the 2 years strict avoidance was up, she said that they would bring him in to challenge him. I asked if they would RAST test him first and she said "No, that would make it quite scarey if he showed up as positive to anything"
What I want to know is if this is right or wrong? I would have though that if they did a RAST and he was still showing as being allergic, then it wouldn't make much sense to challenge. Our other concern is that he is supposedly allergic to most nuts. We have never seen him react so wouldn't know whether he would be anapylactic, just get hives etc. Also, his wheat allergy has always been a delayed reaction, so they wouldn't see anything on the day anyway. I just really don't want them experimenting on my son taking into consideration his other health problems.

Does anyone have any experience they wouldn't mind sharing?

The problem with a RAST test is that he would have had to have had some "challenges" (even deliberate or accidental) in order for some some antibodies to show up. The RAST test could be completely negative.. but purely because you'd been very very careful about avoiding all his allergens.

I don't know what she was talking about saying "it would be scary if he showed up positive to anything" from a RAST test. But then I'm just a mother...

Ahhh, maybe that's what she meant, why on earth didn't she just say that in the first place then, lol! Doesn't exactly fill me full of confidence.

Thanks for that!
