Anyone heard of Glutenzyme for wheat intolerance?

An enzyme said to help digest gluten. I''ve found one report from a coeliac saying it didn't work for them (they get skin problems when glutened so can tell easily). However I wonder if anyone has tried it for intolerance but not coeliac?

I have heard of this but just for gluten intolerance rather than coeliac disease. Haven't heard of it for wheat intolerance though just gluten intolerance.

i'd be dubious, i think it's more complex if your digestion is awry, can be lots of different causes. I'd go for a proper diagnosis.

thanks. If you have a negative coeliac blood test a proper diagnosis is hard to get. You have to find a diagnosis yourself or spend a fortune on unreliable private tests . Then you may get a doctor to confirm it.

This is popular for ASD kids who can't tolerate gluten and dairy. Although the brand i have heard of is Peptizyde.

It def is no good for coeliac but i have heard of people who could reintroduce gluten. You usually have to take the enzyme in the hour before eating. There are some yahoo groups with people using enzymes if you want to do a serach.
I tried then for ASD son but to no avail. But eldest son couldn't tolerate milk and had limited tolerance to gluten when he was younger and they definately helped.

Depending on level of intelerance it might be worth trying as long as you are disciplined. they can be expensive but if you are having to buy g&c free products that can be costly too.
Hope this helps

Have you done a food elimination diet to confirm whether it is a wheat intolerance or gluten intolerance?

We have just been through this with DS. His is purely wheat, gluten doesn't cause a problem at all.

haven't done a strict 7 foods type diet. Eliminated all gluten and have been feeling so much better I've been reluctant to reinroduce anything. However by doing so accidentally wheat and rye seem to be problems.

It might just be wheat and rye then. I found it really hard finding foods with the individual things in ie; rye and barley but without wheat (as we knew that was a problem!)

Health food shop had some rye cookies which we bought to test DS on rye and def no problem there.

And I quite agree once coeliac test is negative its nigh on impossible to get a diagnoses. We have been trying since DS was born sigh and FINALLY getting somewhere (oh and DS was 4 on Monday).

Can you get an appt with a dietician? The one we saw was fab at working out ways we could test what exactly was causing DS problems.

I hadn't thought of trying a dietician. I had a couple of things that I hadn't checked properly that made me feel ill. When I mentioned to my gp how much better I felt they just suggested sticking to the diet, they aren't much use even with full blown allergies.

We have a good health food shop so I can probably find foods to test myself when I can face doing it.
