An Intolerance reaction, or just the cold?!

I am so flummoxed by my dd's intolerances, that when I challenge her diet I'm not sure if she's reacting! It could always be teething symptoms, a bug, something else, etc.

Last Thurs I gave her a soy yogurt. She is dairy and gluten intolerant. She was awake for 1.5 hours during Thurs night in pain (definite reaction) and very farty. Since then her dirty nappies have been very soft. She is still troubled by wind, although doesn't wake because of it. Her nose started running on Thursday afternoon and hasn't stopped. She is now off-colour and off her food.

In your expert opinions, is she still reacting to soy, or has she since got the cold? If she is still reacting, isn't a runny nose a sign of allergy rather than intolerance?

V confused.

Runny nose can be linked to excessive mucus production in an intolerance- most symptoms are interchangeable bar the life threatening ones eg anaphalaxis, throat swwelling etc.

I would re challenge in a few weeks, it sounds to me that it would be impossible to know in this case. An exact repeat of symptoms would be unlikely through any other cause than intolerance.

Be careful of soy- many children intolerant of milk (DS1, DS3 and I are all casein intolerant- a less common milk intolerance than lactose intol) actually turn out to be soya allergic, luckily not us (Phew!) but it is something to beware of.
