Blisters on DS' hands - is it eczema?

DS now 10 months and eczema been under control, albeit with eumovate / lots of emollient, for some months. 2 days ago new development - he had a fever for first time ever and I thought it might be teething related as he was covering his hands in drool. 24 hours later both hands were blistered, one as far as knuckles, the other to the wrist. Pharmacist advised watch and wait - today no more blisters but they all look to have burst and angry red colour. My only theory is that DS's hands got really hot with the fever (which went within 24 hrs)and this is a new variation on eczema, caused by heat, and made worse by all the saliva. I can't think of anything new or different that he's touched or played with that could be the cause. I've searched the allergy threads, especially looking at ones about poly-whatever that type of hand / foot eczema is, but can't see anything that quite describes what we've got going on. Does anyone have an idea? I'm going to try and see GP tomorrow if I can get appt. Thank you!

Have you checked for hand, foot and mouth disease?

Beenleigh · 04/10/2007 22:32

I was thinking hand foot and mouth too. He may have blisters in his mouth too, but possibly not. DD1 had them so severely she couldn;t eat or drink for two days , but lots of children I've heard of didn;t suffer at all

It would explain the fever and drool.

What a shame. I hope he is better soon.

Think hfm must be doing the rounds all over at the minute, my nephew and a another couple of children I know have had it in the past few weeks. On seperate sides of the city. Hope your ds feels better soon.

Thank you everyone. DS is really over the worst and very chirpy again. Irritatingly though I have it now, which is a bit of a pain (and a surprise as I thought it was confined mainly to children). Can't decide whether it's ok for me to go to work tomorrow, but it sounds as though once the blisters appear, you're over your most contagious. Then again, Monday at home with DS & DH is quite tempting...
