GP diagnosed eczema- now what??

My son is 9months and diagnosed with eczema 3 months ago. It comes and goes, and initial creams seemed to help. I was frustrated though by how little she explained to me about it.

He is now having another bad outbreak and is itching it for the first time. What should I do? Go to GP for a referral? If so to who? Many thanks.

Don't know what happens next in the UK as I live in France.

Just wanted to say that eczema is very often a symptom of food allergy and can be helped enormously through diet.

Dairy foods are one of the first places to start looking.

Good luck.

I find that wheat products aggravate mine and ds2's eczema. I switched over to oatibix instead of weetabix at breakfast and the results were noticeable.

You may find that some foods trigger eczema flare-ups (for me it's tomato, orange, strawberry, wheat and several more) oh and stress makes it flare up every time !

Sunny holidays have always caused my skin to get much better and indeed phototherapy is prescribed for some skin conditions but it may aggravate others.

Cotton clothing is recommended to let the skin breathe, wool makes me itch (I think its the lanolin connection as lanolin in moisturisers also makes me itch)

Have you noticed any recurrence of the eczema in relation to certain foods with your son? It can take years to identify them but eczema does require a lot of self-management and trial and error with foods and creams/lotiosn etc.

I have heard that the best thing is to be asked to be referred to a specialist as they are experienced in the different forms and causes of eczema. You may have to push for this of course.

There is a website for eczema sufferers and it might help you but I can't remember the site name, google eczema society or something and see what you can find.

Yep, I just googled National Eczema Society and it is a very useful website, try it for yourself.
