Alpro soya toddler milk

My 2yo is still on neocate for CMPA she previously reacted to soya and oat milk before. She is now tolerating soya yoghurts, so thought I'd try the alpro soya 1-3 milk (giraffe on carton) I mixed 1oz of this with 5oz of neocate for gradual transition... shortly after drinking it she had an upset tummy with some mucous in her poo and it stank soooo bad. The same thing has happened twice more after the next two bottles still with only a tiny amount of soya milk, does this mean she is still intolerant to soya milk? The smell was so rotten like walking into a pig pen at a farm - is this normal for toddlers on soya milk or a sign it's not for her? I will try Oatley barista again if soya is going to be a no go!

So we took a break from any soya and her poop is back to normal texture and not the vile stink. Does this mean a soya intolerance or is this normal for soya?

My youngest drinks this and we have no issues at all he is cmpa so it may be that your dc has a soya intolerance it’s allergy too apparently it’s quite common
Oatly milk is a good alternative and tastes quite nice

@NotaFreeloader thanks for the reply. Did you notice the poop smelt different when you initially transitioned? Oatley is becoming more available now but soya still has the best selection for yoghurts and ice creams etc and is more easily available in corner shops!

I didn’t notice but we had done it gradually so it may be that as from 6 months we used it to make porridge then introduced soya yogurt then bottles of it alongside breastfeeding so I didn’t notice any changes to nappies etc
With milk though that did cause foul nappies when trying to do food challenges. Oatly do ice cream now I think and creme fraiche
Also if your little one is ok with almonds you can get some really nice almond yogurts

Hello, my youngster has a dairy allergy but is NOT allergic to soy.
It sounds very much like your little one is allergic to soy to me. I would stop with the soya milk. Have you tried almond milk and oat milk? They are better for children anyway, I believe.
Do you give little one vitamins? This would make the milk she has less important!
Tips on Vitamins- the hard but chewable ones are nicer than the gummy ones usually x

Thanks for the replies we will move on to Oatley next! Going to give it another week or two to get soya out of her system first.

My dc has lots of allergies, and tried many different kind of milk. Rice/almond/oats/coconut, etc. Our dietician suggested we add Nesquik powders for added vitamins and minerals.

Aria20 · 10/05/2020 15:45

@Crimsonnightlotus what like the powder to make chocolate milkshake etc? I never thought of that assumed they'd be full of artificial sugars but would prob improve the flavour and encourage her to try!

Yes, that was the idea, to improve taste so child is willing to drink. My dc's dietician was all about making sure children with restricted diet eat more, rather than worrying too much about too much sugar etc.
