Lactose intolerant dd

sparkle789 · 09/02/2020 15:55

Dd (6) has been diagnosed with secondary lactose intolerance.
I am trying to find new foods she will like to replace what she used to like, but not much has been a hit.
Has anyone got any lactose free recipes that you’d recommend or products that your dc love.
Thanks

What replacements so you need? You can buy lactose free products that are still cows milk based so they dont taste very different

We use:

  • Pure margarine and Vitalite margarine, Pure is better for cooking I think.
  • Oatly foamable for porridge. It's great for cooking with, even Yorkshire puddings.
  • Eating out Wagamama is the best
  • Most supermarkets have a good variety of dairy-free food.
  • Don't just shop dairy-free. We are ok with 'may contain so lots of food are fine. I don't keep a dairy-free house so we figure we don't need the same from manufacturers.
  • We buy soluble vitamins with calcium in, there are chewable ones too.
  • Moo free chocolate is lovely according to my boy.
  • We have to limit soya too but can occasionally have soya custard etc.
  • We've never found a cheese he likes but he loves pizza with no cheese.
  • There is a 50/50 bread that has added calcium, we buy that when we see it.

It's not too hard to manage, a lot easier than it used to be.

You dont need to be dairy free to be lactose free

We use lactose free UHT milk (fresh when we have shopped), soy ice cream and stick to regular hard cheese, as the lactose content is low enough for our family. Hasn't been very hard, to be honest.

Things like spag Bol and chilli are DF. You could do a roast dinner and try making the Yorkshire Puddings with Lactose Free milk.

The Madeira cake in Lidl is DF and lots of biscuits are, usually supermarket own brands are the most likely.

My dd is lactose intolerant and often takes Lactaid which allows her to eat some lactose.
