Adult onset nut allergy

Hand hold really: I had a sudden and anaphylactic reaction to cob nuts at the weekend tempted by a bowl of locally sourced nuts. Didn't dial 999 despite throat swelling (not recommended - but I was with a medically able relative, managed by irrigating throat). I went to the GP yesterday for a referral and got a ventilin/asthma puffer. I am taking ibuprofen and an antihistamine.
I feel miserable and as though I have been run over Sad. How long before I am going to feel well again?
I had a warning episode about 4-5 years ago (again the tempting Christmas nuts in a bowl).
I won't know until after the allergy referral what I should avoid so I am taking it seriously as probably post reaction hypersensitive.
I am mid-50s, anyone else experienced late onset nut allergies?
I have an (emotionally) insensitive DH and 2 x DS who live on nuts Shock, I have hidden all nuts that were in the house.

Oh, you poor thing. It takes me a good few days to feel close to normal and a few weeks to really clear up after a big reaction. I'm ana to shellfish, discovered as an adult, but my parents never ate them, so it's unclear if I had it as a child. I have many other food allergies, which my parents always viewed as me being an extremely fussy eater. Luckily I was stubborn enough to protect myself!

Definitely avoid all nuts, seeds and legumes (peanuts) for now. I tend to focus on soft nourishing foods like soups and stews while I recover.

My in laws come from a culture that eat a lot of shellfish. It's easy for me to avoid temptation, because the smell makes me ill. But cross contamination in preparation spaces does cause me grief. I take antihistamines for a week before sharing a meal with them, on advice of my allergist. They live far away, so that helps too!

My husband and kids are hugely supportive. They decided not to have shellfish in the house and if they eat some in a restaurant, they brush their teeth and thoroughly wash their faces and hands before coming near me.

I have an EpiPen on hand at all times, but I've never had to use it touch wood

Hope you get your appointment soon. It's good to know what you need to avoid, takes some of the fear out. Good luck.

Thank you for your words of support @YeahNahWhal
I had another blip trying out some fig jam (started to feel better then blam!) Unfortunately a friend told me the referral to the allergy clinic might take 6 months as I might not be classified as an emergency! Sticking to homemade soups is definitely the way to go.
