Does anyone have any experience of Neocate formula?

Hi my ds (7 mnths) has had vomiting and diahorrea frequently since going onto formula - today our gp said he is likely to have an allergy to cows milk. We have bought some soy based formula for now but long term (if is an allergy to milk) I am not so sure as I read that long term use can cause reproductive problems. I was wondering if anyone has tried Neocate or have had any concerns themselves about soy based formula. It's all really confusing!

I was told not to use a soya formula with boys many years ago,

While caring for children i have neocate twice and both times it was a great success and with another child we tried SMA LF (lactose free) and that sorted him out.

Hope that helps, Neocate doesn't smell the best but babies don't seem to mind.

Thanks MNP, I don't suppose you know where i can buy it?

Available free on Rx from GP or hospital tho some smaller private chemists will order it for you.

friends of mine have a child with a severe allergy to soy to add to his milk allergy after a health visitor suggested they try soy. It is also linked to nut allergy - which my child has after having soy as a baby. My friends use Pepti Junior for their child as they say it was easier to get him to take that than nutramigen or neocate. Your gp can prescribe Pepti Junior.

Hopefully your child will outgrow this by about 3, although I regret to say my friends child shows no sign of outgrowing his yet.

My DS (19mths) became allergic to soya after I was advised to give it him because of dairy intolerance. I ended up seeing a consultant because of it & specifically asked for Neocate (the usual route is apparently Nutrimagen first but some children can't take that either & DS has multiple allergies/intolerances - Neocate is the least likely to cause problems apparently)He is now thriving on Neocate.

FWIW you are right about soya - it's linked to other allergies and, because it mimics the female hormone oestrogen, can have a detrimental effect on development (particularly in boys!) will try to find a link for you but HTH in the meantime.

Thank you for your replies. Ds' diahorrea and vomiting has stopped since yesterday when we stopped the cow based formula so looks as though it is a cows milk allergy. However, he doesn't like the soya formula though as he is not drinking much at all - refusing it until he gets really hungry! I will go and see gp and ask for a prescription for Neocate or similar. In a way I am relieved to know it is an allergy and not an illness as the diahorrea and sickness has been constant lately! I hardly ever use the dryer but recently it has been on all the time due to the change of outfits and bedding etc. Now I can finally leave the house aswell

I read online that a baby/child that has issues with cows milk is much more likely to develope issues with soya.
