Reintroducing gluten?

I was diagnosed with IBS 15 years ago yet been unable to get on top of it, it’s gradually got worse. I decided to try an elimination diet and realised I can’t tolerate onions. I test negative for coeliacs but in desperation decided to try cutting it out for a while, it’s been 4 months now. My IBS is 95% better, I’m no longer in constant pain or bloated, however I am exhausted and weak. I want to try and reintroduce again to test things out but I’m not sure the best way to do it. Is it likely I will experience side effects purely for being off it for a while? Or if I do get side effects will this be conclusive that I can’t tolerate it? I’m confused that my stomach feels so different yet I tested negative for coeliac. Has anyone done something similar?

I am a Coeliac and cannot eat gluten, I can eat wheat (as long as the gluten protein is removed). It is possible you have a wheat intolerance, or you have a gluten sensitivity or you have both.

Gluten sensitivity, as opposed to Coeliac disease, is difficult to 'test' for and there is no definitive test. Just anecdotal 'evidence' on feeling better once it has been removed from the diet,

You should not be 'exhausted and weak' by removing gluten but you may feel that way if your diet does not have sufficient carbohydrates and other essential vitamins and minerals.

it may be that your blood test for Coeliac was a false negative and you do have the condition as this can happen but it is not usual. Please speak to Coeliac Uk (they have a dietician led helpline) or return to your GP.

Have a look at the coeliac U.K. website. You can be gluten intolerant which shows up as negative for coeliac, or it could be a false negative results as the previous poster said.

Perhaps speak to a dietician (keep a food diary) as it’s important to do so when you cut out gluten.

I wouldn’t reintroduce it. It’s not just cealiacs who can’t eat gluten.
