Eczema food allergies

Sorry folks, you're probably getting sick of me already, but here goes. How can you tell if a bad night scratching is due to a food allergy? My GP always tells me dd's eczema is probably not connected to food allergies however I wonder. On Friday she had a tomato, raw and over the weekend her scratching has been unbearable. Along with eczema spots she has little raised patches over legs and base of back, her face is also redder than normal and itchy. I've heard tomatoes are a trigger, could this be the cause? She also had a few prawns on Saturday, can they do this also?
I have been keeping a food diary now for the past couple of weeks so I can try and find out of any triggers.
Thanks again
Tracey

Go back to your doctor again and ask to be referred to the paediatrician (spelling?) at the hospital. Tahts what we did even though the doctor told me there was no connection. We kept a diary and then they did allergy tests on DS. we knwe some things caused an instant reaction ie big allergy, but it turned out he had an allergy to soya, and when this was eliminated the excema virtually disappeared. He has since outgrown this allergy but sadly the others remain so far.
Good luck

not sick of you at all. we put dd1 on cow milk free when younger as some kids improve on goats milk. not a jot of difference. dd1 is now under allergy specialist, and takes a small dose of anti-histimine to keep the reactions at bay. her ezcema doesnt get worse if she has a reaction to food/colourings, but she comes up in nettle rash.

Try keeping a food diary and ezcema diary to see if you can find a pattern to bad outbreaks. Some gp's are awful, saying that allergies dont exsist in making ezcema worse, but as parents we know there must be a trigger.

Does your dd have any other allergies? hayfever, asthma etc? my dd1 is 'atopic' as she has ezcema, asthma, hayfever and unidentified allergies as well as allergies to cats. dd1 also has 'atopic shiners' dark circles beneath her eyes which get worse over the summer montsh with her hayfever.

Both the tomatoes and prawns are definite possibilities also check washing powder - persil original non bio and NO fabric softener usually the best bet. Best of luck.
